I want to get a bike to bike intercom for when my lad starts riding, and also use it when the wife rides pillion with me.
These look like good value and the reviews are excellent

Excuse my ignorance but I was wondering, if I run it through my blackberry which has a bluetooth facility will my lad also need a bluetooth device as well for us to communicate? Not sure how these things work:blast

I cannot comment on the kit as I've never heard of them - I have extensive experience with the current crop of known brand products from Interphone, Sena and Scala.

I can help clear up a common misconception with bluetooth intercoms though, the Bluetooth capability is for the wireless connectivity of your Bluetooth equipped devices (phone, sat nav etc) not for the intercom side of things, this is not Bluetooth which is why one brand doesn't work with another. The protocols used for unit to unit comms are not an open standard like bluetooth is.

Scala works with Scala
Sena works withSena
Interphone works with Interphone
Amazon jobbie works with Amazon jobbie etc

But your Bluetooth equipped device will connect with any of the above (or should!).

So you will need 3 of 'something the same' if all 3 of you want to communicate with each other.

Are you saying that when I speak the signal goes from my mic to my phone to my sons phone to my sons speakers, and for this to happen we must both have the same make of phone?

Nope comms between you and your son will go from intercom to intercom over the air, not via bluetooth and not via your phone, usually its low power FM radio hence the range of operation varies from unit to unit.

My Interphone 4 and Sena SMH10 give a range of up to half a mile use (subject to terrain/conditions).

Is see (I think!).
So if all I want to do is talk to my lad the phone is completely irrelevant.
The phone is only for taking calls/listening to music via bluetooth.
In that case I reckon one of these units may do the job as I won`t need a vast range as I should be able to keep up with a DT50MX:D

Hi Chap, please let us know if this is any good , seems too good to be true @£70 isn.:beerjug:John B

As my lad will not be riding for a bit I will test it out by following the car and he can sit in there with his helmet on.

The kit arrived yesterday and first impressions of the quality of the components was very good indeed. This evening I paired the two units and fitted them to the helmets. I tested them out in the house and they seem to work very well. Looking forward to trying them on the bike.

I bought these 2 x BT 800M interphone Bluetooth Motorbike Motorcycle helmet intercom Headset for our trip to France this weekend. A doddle to fit and works well. The headset needs a bit of space so if you have a close fitting AGV it might be a bit tight. They fitted well in my Arai Chaser. Comms are clear and the speakers are really good.
At speed above 50 miles an hour talking is a little hard. I could hear my wife, but she could not hear me. She might be a touch deaf...or too afraid to let go of the grab rail to turn the volume up! Music played from my phone with ease and clarity. I like it. Especially for the price. It worked.

My question is this: I did find out that either I or my pillion could get the music via blue tooth from the phone. We could not both have a bluetooth connection at the same time to the same phone. Probably normal.
So, how do I get music to both sets at the same time? Is it possible to have an open channel between headsets to talk over the music, IOW music/sat nav instructions in the background?
Would an autocomm be any different?

I think this is a limitation of Bluetooth technology, your phone can only connect to one device. Sat nav the same though some Garmins can connect to phone and headset at the same time due to having two Bluetooth channels. Unless one headset can pipe the music to the other whilst still maintaining comms and sat nav then I think you'll be out of luck on that front.

Autocom or Starcom, on the other hand, can combine signals to both headsets. I think the later high end Autocom (Super Pro Automatic) even allows the pillion to have separate music and phone if required. Maybe you could do this with your BT headsets with the pillion having there own music player :nenau

Yea, that is what I was thinking about the 1 channel to 1 device. And also the music!
I just don't want to end up with redundant gadgetry and then realize there is a better way. I guess if I get an Autocomm at a later date I will still need these headsets?

The standard Autocom headsets are wired though you can get a Bluetooth adapter so that you can use your existing BT headsets. Bear in mind you'll need one of these for each headset so £200 just for rider and pillion BT hook-up

A friend tried to convince me to go down the BT route a few years ago sharing the cost of a pair of Interphone F4s. So glad I stuck with Autocom TBH.

You seem to know what your talking about. Can you comment on my issue posted here http://ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=334245

Basically when I'm on the bike I want to stream music from my Zumo660(:D), take/make calls(:D via zumo660), hear navigation (:D). Then additionally when my girlfriend is on the back, talk to her too (:()

Any help appreciated. Thanks loads

You never know he may be a fast lad.:beerjug:

I forgot about this post so time for an update.
I used the set up for the first time a month or so back on a short trip to Sheringham. I was quite happy with it although I could hear the wife better than she could hear me (if it was the other way round I wouldn`t mind:D) but I reckon I didn`t have the speakers in the right place so I expect that to improve next time out.

Geting those speakers in the right place is a real pain ! not like you can shift them when riding. A small move makes a huge difference though. Also the quality of the speakers (obv)..find my autocomm ones a mile better and clearer than the bt ones i tried

Tried it with the tweaked speaker locations today and it was brilliant! We could comminicate up to 80mph no bother. Very impressed and a superb bargain:thumb
