I run a GSA1250 and do 10k a year, BMW have offered me the 30,000 miles 3 year service contract for just under £1200
Has anyone one done this and is it worth the out lay
Thanks

I suppose it depends on the cost of servicing at your local dealer.

The figures below are for my 1200GSA but the BMW service plan quotes for a boxer or twin engine (https://www.bmw-motorrad.co.uk/en/o...l#/section-service-inclusive-package-overview) so must be the same for both the 1200 and 1250 and 'F'' series

600m = £100 (got mine as part of the deal)

6000m = £202.75 (Aug '18)

12000 = £312.65 (Sept '19)

18000 = £202.75 (sold the bike for a 1250 before this service but as it's the same as the 6000 and wear and tear items are not covered I've assumed the same cost)

All of the above included 'annual service'

So the cost to me for 3 years 18k would have been £818.12 including the 600m service, £718.12 without.

Service costs are bound to increase with inflation but the 3 year 18k service package at £829 does not look very impressive to me

I would expect a substantial saving on a pre paid service plan

All IMHO

Mike

As Mike said above he is totally correct. The benefit of this is it includes the first service so counting the 600m service it gets you 4 services on the 3 year or 6 on the 5 year.

I bought mine to get it out of the way and because it included the 600m running in service.

Could not agree more, the pre-paid plan seems poor value to me, more so when you haggle some servicing in the deal for a new bike. Typically in the car industry, a dealer pre-paid package saves around 10% with a manufacturer pack saving even more. This BMW package does not seem to save you anything.

A few years ago BMW cars had an optional 5 yr 60k miles service pack for around £475, but this has been replaced with a far less advantageous package for the customer, so why would Motorrad be any different ? I have found my local dealer willing to do a deal whenever I need service work done.

Just a way of putting servicing on your PCP, to "bring everything under your affordable monthly payment, Sir"

Putting off the day that the dealers' chickens come home to roost.

Not the case. The service pack can't be added to the PCP, at least not easily. It is either paid up front or deducted from your deposit.

There are rules around what can be added and although service packs can technically be added it is an insane headache, massive admin and involves the head of business approval and taking out different VAT amounts and allocating funds per bucket. Something of a nightmare.

I thought the dealer was trying to mess me about so I checked with someone I know who is a head of business at a JLR franchise and they advised me if a service pack is added to a PCP and it isn't done in the correct way they would fail an audit and lose their entire years bonus from the brand. It is. It worth it at all and if a cowboy does it discretely to get a deal in they will be fired. It isn't worth it at all so 99% of the time it comes out of the deposit or is laid up front. Either way same outcome.

If you flog the bike in under 3 years, so don't need all the services, what happens ?

Ah-hah! Thanks for clarifying.

BMW Service

Thanks Guys
This a great help I was looking at the five year plan but I will hit 30000 in three years you could miss the last service as you can only service the bike when the service light comes up on the screen so knowing my luck the light will come up at 30001 miles, I might only get four services

Sorry used the word service to many times
