I'm pretty sure my long running saga with a broken 2008 R1200GS is a failed ECU. (I deduce this because my known good ECU behaves differently in this bike)

My question is what are my options regarding replacement ECU and is it possible without main dealer?

If I was to buy a secondhand unit what makes a "full set"? Do I need BMSPK, KEYS, ZFE, FUEL CAP, SEAT LOCK, Instrument cluster? Anyone know where full set can be got?

Has anyone ever had original ECU repaired? This bike had a Hilltop upgrade. All suggestions appreciated

Summarize for us

What is / was wrong with the bike ?

How did you run the new ECU? Did you just hide the main key in tinfoil and hold the ECU coded key to the antenna ??

on you-tube are LOTS of videos of experts soldering up dry joints, replacing popped capacitors or replacing iffy chips in BMW (read any Bosch) ECUs
