BMW 1150 GS Adventure - tank bags

Hi All

Hopefully a quick and easy one;

For my all year commuting on an 1150GSA, I need a tank bag (and yes I’m also looking for an 1150GSA top box so do get in contact if you have one for sale!!!). Tank bags; they have always been one of my favourite travel packs apart from a top box.

My favoured option over the last 15 years has been;

- Various Oxford magnetic tank bags

I appreciate the 1150s have lots of options such as Baglux / official bags / tank ring bags etc but in all honesty I would much rather have my well loved Oxford ones. Even though the zips go on them, not waterproof etc etc I get it. But remember I do now own my unicorn GSA so will inevitably be a bit “set in my ways”…

Question - is there any issue at all using magnetic tank bags on our 1150GSs? Can it affect the petrol Fuel gauge or cause any other issues?

I never ever ever see an 1150 with a magnetic tank bag hence the sanity check!

IMO the shape of the 30l tank does not sit well with a generic magnetic bag. - that’s the reason why.

Magnets won't affect the fuel sender gauge.

Twizzle is right about the tank shape, but if your bag is suitably contoured then go for it.

I tried my non magnetic one as a test and works ok

Never really liked having straps all over the place hence the preference!

Agree with you that a “contoured” one is the best option
