BMW Alarm any good?

Difficult to compare it to other alarms in terms of function but it's not recognised by most insurers as it can be defeated with the key/fob (so I was told by a dealer). You don't see it listed as an option on gocompare etc.
Then again it integrates seamlessly with the on board computer and if you have keyless can be set to auto arm or manual arm. Saves carrying another fob around. One tip that still applies from previous BMW alarms (and I think is not in the LC manual) is alarm it manually with a press on the fob (2 flashes on the indicators), then press again immediately. 3 flashes = ferry mode and the movement sensor is disabled :thumby:

Never found a policy that accepts BMW alarm as a Thatcham approved product so no discount for it so no point.

Sooner or later alarms cause problems

Save your money and buy a good chain and ground anchor and an alarmed disk lock at least when that fails you can chuck it and get a new one

That's what I thought thanks you saved me £210. going to order a bike tomorrow

Spend your money on the above AND have the alarm makes even more sense

No issues with that but.......

Alarms go wrong sooner or later and I have seen a few bikes stranded after a stop for a good breakfast because the alarm is playing up. Usually, of course, because they have been badly fitted and just feck all the electrics up !

Should be OK with a BMW fitted one .......................

That last sentence just put the kiss of death on every BMW fitted alarm :jes:jes:jes

I have had BMW alarms on all my bikes as has my brother and we have had no problems at all.

The bit about disabling the alarm movement sensor for the ferry is in the manual.

I dont have a fob for mine

Related question: is there a sensitivity function?
I went in and out of my soft luggage yesterday, rummaging around and nada. If the bike moves an inch it does go off though.

Bit difficult carrying a ground anchor around with you. JJH.

"Is there a sensitivity function?" It's the movement sensor. Which is really what the alarm is all about.
I have had a couple of remotes programmed for my bike which I like as I can choose to set the alarm when I wish. Rather than it being done automatically every time I turn the ignition off.

Sorry for the ambiguity. What I meant was a 'calibration function'? As in to increase the sensitivity.

The LC manual? Where? I checked the couple of pages about the alarm and it doesn't mention it at all.
