BMW alarms...any good?

I'm returning to the UK shortly so I need to do a few things to my bike....................
Can anyone recommend a good quality alarm / immobiliser?
Are the BMW ones any good?
Any good links?

Also,
I've have been toying with the idea of heated grips, I've read that BMW's are the best, but my right hand switch gear does not have the heated grips switch, do I therefore need to fit a whole new right hand assembly or do I fit and additional switch?

I believe Datatool are as good as alarms get. Whatever you get, make sure it's Thatcham approved - could reduce your insurance premium.

Contrary to the above I personally believe Datatool alarms are pants and best avoided whereas Meta 357 T alarms are the way to go.

Both are Thatcham approved and cost to supply and fit either is the same at around £300.

When I asked for an alarm my dealer pointed me at the Meta so that doesn't say much for the BM item and before I get shot down I've had experience of both Datatool and Meta.

I had a Datatool 3 alarm on my old Triumph Speed Triple. It was fitted as original equipment, and was a complete pain.....definitely never again.

I know a fair few Bikers who have Datatool alarms & nearly all of them do not like them or have had problems with them.

I had a Datatool Veto plus on my first Triumph, and in 5 years, I had no problems with it. My latest Triumph has the Datatool System 3. After 4 months, it has behaved impeccably. Even leaving the bike for 3 weeks without using it has not presented any problems.
