Some interesting info about fog lights below, and before the usual suspects jump in and say Chinese copies at 50 quid are great, no they are not quality wise, for me only Denali make damn good lights with a realistic price on them, the others clearwater etc are way overpriced imho, decent read below as this is not from me, but found it really interesting as I have to get some BMW auxillary lights for my bike, given the MOT over here made me remove my Denali setup.....:blast

the Hella LED lights ran from '14 to build dates up to 08/01/2017. Then they switched to FER, a company in Germany owned by US based Truck Lite, who also happens to own Rigid Industries. In Dec 2017 FER was sold to a Chinese company, Chongqing Boao Industry Co., Ltd (“Boao”). I suspect for now at least, BMW are still sourcing from FER Germany despite the ownership change.

New lights from new company and slighly different style below you can see FER printed on the rear, older models are by HELLA new ones are called NANo, and seem to have different wiring cable, so maybe not a simple switchover, to be confirmed if anyone has done the simple replacement.

Older model but still very good LED light

Why did you have to remove the denali lights? I only ask as I’ve just fitted them to mine, a set of d4’s and the brakelight. The only thing I haven’t done is change the lens cover to the. 4 clear ones, I still have the half and half ones on. Thanks.

It is simply a German thing, they are strict over here, I had the E lens on, but because they had no other markings RL whatever that is for I had to remove them, you have no worries in the UK and Europe it is just here they can be so tedious sometimes.

I have the new Nano model on my 1250 Exclusive bike and my mate has the older ones on his Rallye 1200, according to the group I ride with mine are considerably brighter than his. Not cheap though.

They are indeed.
Combined with the new EU regulations that allows them to be lit at the same time as low-beams, the lights are on the bright side, bothering on coming traffic.

Can you not adjust the brightness as per the denalis?

Is there a plug and play kit you can buy to fit these to my new 1250 TE?
They can be bought as a complete kit with wiring etc but they need enabling via the canbus system usually via a dealer or a 911.

Theres a full kit on fleabay right now, sorry but I dont know how to put a link on here. I bought one and its excellent quality stuff. Search “full denali kit” and you should find it.

I never had to go to dealers, pure plug and play. No errors or faults as yet!

Think it’s these from BMW you will need the brackets too and they have to be enabled to use the Bmw wiring via canbus as stated in the instructions.

Yep you are correct on enabling them, however only thing I do not know about is what bracket would be needed for under the beak on the new 1250, is the design any different from 1200 GS Lc 2017 onwards, you have the crappy plastic one, that is OK if you do not have Wunderlich engine bars, or the one I am going to use is the metal one from wunderlich, that fits OEM lights on, because I have Wunderlich bars already, but plenty of options out there to attach the lights.

As for enabling they do say................Perform Software Update with ISTA/P so obviously dealer time unless you have the gear.

Not without modifications.
On my -15 GSA I disconnected the AUXlights and hooked them up to my CAN-Switch. The -15 never gave a faultcode of any kind when I disconnected the lights.

I suspect the newer lights to be different. My plans are to once again hook them up to the CAN-switch. It remains to bee seen if this may be done without te bike throwing a fault code. I may end up having to use a couple of dummy loads.

While the fault code might seem like a none issue, the catch is, if you ever are to upgrade software, the BMW computer will not initiate updates as long as there are fault codes in the system. A friend of mine disconnected the AUX lights, sealed the cables and replaced the AUXlights with Denalies, using the same brackets. For the bike to be updated he ended up having to again hook up the AUX lights.

My ultimate aim is to use the CANswitch to dim the AUXlights for daylight driving as well as low-beams and allow them to go full bright at high beam and Light flash only. This will be part of my winter project. Additionally they will flash when I hit the horn and flash opposite of the signal at the selected side. (They are so bright that it makes it hard to see the signal LED whit AUX lite on))

Now that is really interesting Knut, so if I understand correctly, if you ever want to remove the auxillary lights to sell them, lets say for instance, you would have to go to the dealer and get the lights deactivated first, and then taken off is my thinking correct.

I had the early lights and after one packed up when I jet washed the bike and I couldn't bring it back to life I bit the bullet and got 2 new ones. I had to also buy the wiring loom that goes from the lights which plugs into the one from the switch (which doesn't need changing). I think the newer lights are much better and I am glad I changed them.

I may be over my head here, but based on the experience for my friend I see no other solution.

Cheers Dave it does give a different part number for the loom that goes to the new Nano lights, part number is 61 12 8 395 601, and as you say the rest is the same the on and off switch etc..................:thumb2 for the older lights cable part number is fro the 1200 gs LC 2017 onwards 61 12 8 535 705
