Hello everybody
I recently bought a 2013 WC Model from a main dealer two weeks later I purchased a genuine bmw charger and plug it into the handle bar socket and it started to charge then after 24 hours it went into sleep mode then the following day the charger display said no battery, so I contacted the dealer and they asked me to bring my charger in and one of there mechanics will plug into his bike which had a new battery fitted, they came back to me saying the charger is working correctly. I then asked if the battery needs replacing so they contacted BMW and as a good will gesture BMW offered a new battery (ive only done 250 miles on the bike since I bought it),which they fitted on Friday 2nd March, i am a happy guy or so I thought. I went home plugged into the charger and it started its cycle then yesterday it went into sleep mode all seemed ok however I went into the garage this morning and my charger is saying no battery.
I unplugged the charger switched the bike on, my bike display is showing 11.9 volts re plugged charger back in then up to 12.1 volts and the charging cycle has begun.
Any thoughts on what's going on ? before I contact the dealer.

1. Turn the ignition of the motorcycle to "ON." (Do not start)
2. Connect the battery charger to the "On Board Socket" first, then connect the charger to the mains outlet.
3. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.

^^^^ If that doesn't sort it, connect the charger direct to the battery itself. If it charges correctly then enters float, the socket is being isolated so either the charger isn't sending the pulses to keep it awake (charger fault) or the bike isn't reacting to the pulses (bike fault).

Thanks Smogbob done that, Sea Dog going to try your suggestions now

Adding on to Sea Dog,s post also try a different battery charger directly on the battery, that will show if it is the battery charger that is throwing a wobbly.

The BMW Battery charger just plugs directly into the dash socket. It talks the the canbus. Both my GSA's have never had an issue. There is no need to add any leads, or plug it anywhere else ?

Same as this. No turning on/off etc. Just plug it in and that’s it.

I really don't understand why or how anyone can make is difficult? It couldn't be any easier ?
Just lift the plastic cover and plug it in.... bingo!

Two things came to mind....
First. Handlebar plug ? Not sure what that is? If its an add on the canbus will disconnect it after ten minutes.....Just use the dash port which is what it is for ?
Second, The dash port is only "Live" for ten minutes after ignition is off. But that is common knowledge and in the manual.
So I'm still a bit confused

I have, more than once to try and understand it.....

BMW charger. Just plug it in the dash... its that simple, it can not be more simple.

Agree but sometimes things do not work as they should, in this case something is not going to plan.

When Livewire returns, He will tell us that
A, He was plugging it into an add on port attached to the handlebar ? And that the canbus was disconnecting it ?
B) He was plugging it in after the ten minute window ?
C) Its Kaput !

When I first bought it, I also noticed the charger displayed "no battery" occasionally once it entered the maintenance cycle, but it performed faultlessly.

I found the best solution was to plug it in and leave it to do its job...
