BMW BIKE BITS - no longer trading

Don't worry...

Well, it's been two weeks since I wrote to BMWbikebits / Simon Steele and as expected, no response.

I paid another visit to their premises at Guildford today, to deliver another letter and it was still locked up and unattended. That said, someone has been going into the place, because I could see that things have been moved about inside and the post picked up and put on a desk (quite a big pile of post too).

Their website is still down, with no change to the message posted on it.

Out of curiosity - and so that I'm not wasting my time posting updates on here - are there any other forum members who have parts or money outstanding with this company? If I'm the only one, I'll stop dripping on!

you are not alone.....:D I have Steele's home address if you want it....:D

I have an address for him. I won't publish it in full here as this is a public forum and I don't think that's fair - although buggering off with two hundred quid of my hard earned cash ain't exactly fair either

PM coming your way to compare addresses...............

nope, Honda_Star is another with kit ordered but not delivered. A letter has been sent, not sure if anythings been heard back though

I have the address as published at Companies House.

Is that the Belmont Close address?

What's the odds that place was a rented house and not his own property? 99% certain I'd reckon! Wonder if there's a Landlord missing a tenant and some rent money?

When I spoke to a guy at Companies House he told me that the Registered Office for BMWbikebits had been re-registered to the shop address. That'd be about 6 weeks ago now that it was re-registered to the shop.

I had a letter back from Companies House saying that there were no plans afoot in the near future to de-register the company. Interestingly they referred to the company as "Rock or Something Ltd".

Just how many names was this geezer trading under..............

Rock or Something
RSVR Racing
Sidestand Ltd
BMWbikebits
Confederate Motorcycles UK

...............................are the ones I've heard of!

The BMWbikebits site for Eire (Republic of Ireland) seems to have gone west too!

yep, that's the one. or two as the case maybe :D

Interesting, as the report I was able to aquire seemed to suggest
Date of Filing Details
24 February 2009 Intention To Dissolve Company

Now I dont pretend to know what that means exactly, but to me it seems someone was planning to wide the company up at the start of this year or maybe I'm just being simple?

From what I understood

Sidestand Ltd was trading as BMWBikeBits - so thats one company
and he was also registered as a director for RSVR RACING LIMITED

I dont know if he's opened the other trading names since???

BMWbikebits Eire seemed to be an identical site that was left up and running a good few weeks after the main UK site went down, purely from memory it was the same UK registered copmany though backing it all up BMWbikebits (Sidestand Ltd)

hope that helps some... you might want to talk to trading standards, there was a case opened up with them.

Surrey, the way I understood it you need to deal with the TS local to the business in question.

Depending on when you actually ordered the stuff I can't help but feel that you've got a good case in going and talking to your Credit Card company. The way I see it they BMWbikebits appear to have been trading illegally in that they seem to have been taking internet orders when the shop itself was reporting the business as closed down

Case in point being BMWBB Eire it was the same uk company (as far as I could see) but continued trading online weeks after the UK site was torn down.

You've got nothing to loose by giving them a call.

Sadly, being a bit old-fashioned, I didn't use a credit card, but did it the old way by turning up at the shop and paying cash (in advance - Dohh!) :blast so I've no recourse to a credit card company.

I'll give Trading Standards a ring in a couple of days, then it'll have been a month since my first letter to the company and a full fortnight since my second, which I think is more than a reasonable time for them / him to have responded.

Still don't hold out much hope of seeing my two hundred quid again though.

I think "Clumsy Luigi" is going to be needed to sort this one out.....I don't have anything outstanding thankfully.

Unsurprisingly I've had no response to the letters I sent / delivered to BMWbikebits / Simon Steele.

I must however, give a Surrey Yeoman Gold Star Commendation to Julia at Wunderlich!

I took up her offer of supplying the parts I'd ordered from BMWbikebits and she not only gave me a 20% discount, but had them delivered from Germany, free of charge (if I read the invoice correctly - my German is not so good), via UPS to my house in just three working days.

Outstanding customer service!
I got shafted by this numpty as well  Ordered adjustable levers off them in April and payed by PayPal (now well out of the dispute resolution period they have in their terms) got a few crap excuses along the way then this. I've been in touch with Julia as well (Yorkshire Gold Star in the post) and have got to the point where she wants payment details... did she ask you to just email your credit card details in? It's a bit errr... unconventional but I'll be more comfortable about it if other people can confirm that this is just her way of doing things.

Yes mate, she asked for my credit card details by email, but I wasn't happy about sending them over an insecure email system, so I phoned her direct at Wunderlich during office hours and gave them over the 'phone. My bits were with me in three working days as I recall. I think her direct line is on her signature block - and her English is a damn sight better than my German!

As for BMWBikebits / Mr Steele, the last time I went down to the shop / workshop, it was well and truly cleared out (skip full of cr*p outside) and a new tenant was viewing the unit.
