Hi all
Has anyone had any experience good or bad with BMW bike insurance (not extended warranty I already have that) actual insurance for riding your bike on the road.
I have been ensured with Carole Nash for many years had the auto reminder through £305 which is dearer than last year £300 excess, rang them haggled only getting £30 saving so went on BMW website got £146 quote £450 compulsory excess on line can not believe it.
I am riding 90th anniversary RT1200 13 years no claims, ROSPA and AIM full member

I was with BMW (Equity Red Star via their broker - Devitt) again IAM and ROSPA, but their policy just kept going up. The only thing that kept me was their much better accessories cover, (the company with a big head were rubbish at accessories and would not even come close to the cost of a new BMW Helmet).
After three steep increases I moved to another company and halved the premium. funnily enough with Devitt again.

North London, no garage

£140 TPFT

2007 RT

9 years no claims (this is the maximum most companies will accept)

With Bennetts

I'm with Carole Nash.
They were the same price as BMW, but I've heard her from stories about Devitt who I understand are the broker for that policy.
I pay about £500 a year- fairly new rider, 2 years no claims, two bikes garaged: 2016 RT Iconic and an S1000.

Try reducing the voluntary excess to zero, it really makes no difference to price.

Yes I was surprised that with or without voluntary excess did not change the price of the premium so £450 was the compulsory figure that said policy is £155 cheaper than Carole Nash with £300 excess so quids in if i don't have to claim???
the £2000 bike kit/clothing cover is better than many with most only covering up to £1000

I need to check they cover for AIM Observing?

I did use BMW insurance many years ago but became too expensive. Used IAM Surety last 5 years and very satisfied. Business class 1 automatic covering IAM Observer duties and they will price match. Sam

I am insured through a broker called Principal, they were very good, friendly and good quotes. Got a good reduction for IAM and ROSPA, plus business cover for blood biking through Aviva. Cheaper than Carole Nash.

A quick mention for LV. Got a very good price and the level of cover is great too - no limit on helmet, leathers etc it's all included as accessories. No loading for mods - well, not mine (Wilbers) which some others wanted to load for. And no expensive charges for address changes etc. Worth a look.

What people say their insurance premium is doesn't really mean a lot to me. So and so says it costs this much and someone else chips in with another price but really, so many variables have to be taken into consideration like age, ncb, experience, profession, location etc etc.
I belong to the Honda C90 club forum (brilliant bikes btw and you should all get one. The club has nearly 12, 000 members) and I'm amazed at the variation there is in premiums for such a small bike. For the 90 I pay £42 fully comp, zero excess and including breakdown with Carole Nash and yet others wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
We're all different and you just have to use a comparison site, or phone someone direct and be bold. Tell them that you think they can do a lot better than that.
The ones we really should be concerned for are those whose policies are renewed automatically.

Have you tried IAM Surety through Cornhill Insurance? Always somewhere near the cheapest in my experience and they have a slush fund for attracting new business, as do most insurers if you haggle.

Pitty that slush fund isn't to retain them, just binned them for been to expensive on renewal :(

That sadly is the way of insurance. Good deal to get you in then hope you're not wick enough or motivated enough to seek out a better deal. Over the last few years I've been swopping between IAM surety, Hastings Direct and a few others.

I believe you are right Harry
you need to swap around each year.
this year BMW was very competitive so i went with them next year they most probably wont be

BBC Watchdog item on car insurance .

The insurance companies twist and turn like a twisty turny thing, but reading in between the lines they say fuck the customers lets rip them off as much as we can and hope they don't notice.
