Bmw bulletin re radiator guards

I had metal mesh guards made by Radguard Australia, I could not see how they would restrict airflow overly although any guard will alter the planned flow volume and positioning over the radiator fins.

Some rad guards I have seen are punched out of a flat piece of alloy or steel, those I would not fit as they do look restrictive.

Unstoppable?....my Arse!

Can I just add my 2p worth...dear toilet riders.....fit the guards!
I listened to the BMW bullshit about fitting radiator guards to the 'unstoppable' adventure bike.
Guess what, 200 miles into my trip to Spain, I was paying a toll fee and the 'monsieur' pointed to bike and said 'merde'...and so did I! Coolant all over the place....
Result, a small pebble the size of a cats testicle has punctured the left radiator.
It took a week to obtain and fit the part at a cost of about £ 300.00. Holiday F****ed.
I will now fit the bleeders and rue my decision not to in the first place....

Has anyone had an overheating problem with the guards fitted,,,,,,,if they are a problem wheres the evidence,,
the potential for damage with no coolant and the temperature spike with the pressure loss is more likeley to damage the engine,,apart from being stranded or delayed ,

Not one report of overheating with the guards fitted, that I've heard of.

I have the Cymarc ones on mine and as long as they are fitted as per Marks instructions i cannot see how they impede cooling air flow by more than a tiny tiny amount !
Engine temp on mine seems to vary very little once warmed up.

Radiator guards

I will be picking my gs up tomorrow ,and fitting the guards when I get home,
I can read a temp gauge and have found they can be slipped out by undoing the bottom cowl fastener ,
So when the cam chain snaps or the water pump fails I can remove them whilst waiting for recovery,
We get lots of radiator damage with new cars and many have a secondary cooling circuit to manage the 800 degrees the turbos get up to re generating dpfs,
When they go into a dealer it's noted the radiator had collision damage on the electronic service history for future reference,,,
So if there's an engine claim they have an option to refuse liability,, which to be honest isn't unreasonable,,
Why wouldn't bmw motorrad do the same,,,
roamer,,

Just a thought...

Surely the 'restricted airflow' would be minimal...
What about when its a hot day and you are sitting in traffic...there's bugger all air flow then , and the fan comes on to help.
Normally when you start moving the temp falls anyway and the fan stops (or is not switched on anyway)
So, at worst, the fan may come on a bit more often?
This bike is marketed as an adventure bike going across deserts etc.....

....big enough to stop the 'unstoppable'...
Buy a GS and then spend £100s making it 'fit for purpose'
