all, ive been looking on the BMW SCOOTER forum in the US re the C400 & C400 GT scooters. nothing much to be alarmed about from what i can see.
some have had a few issues, but not unlike any other bike. And nothing too serious. Im aware these are built in China, but so are a lot of things....a lot of bike manufacturers are all over asia etc and have been for a long time. 3 yr warranty is a bonus with the bmw also. Im hoping to have a test ride locally on one some time this week. i believe a few have been sold in Ireland, i have yet to see one on the road.

i would be buying new. im biking a long time, i have a serious naked fun bike in the garage right now, and have had 2 x xadv 750 , gen 2 & gen 3 amongst a lot of other bikes.

I rode the new 2025 750 xadv a couple of weeks back, incredible, dct upgrade is noticable, and it has cruise control now.....but was thinking about something new, hence looking at bmw scoots. Currently have a honda 300 scoot at the moment also which would go if i bought rhe C400 - but not sure of the larger body work GT or the stock one in the Calamata - gold color.

scooters are incredible, especially around Dublin city & suburbs now, its just choc-ablock 24/7, and weekends. in/out of work is a doddle on a scooter. Crossing city or motorway jaunts for 20 mins here and there. Ive been scootering for a few yrs now, they are just swiss army and i dont give 2 hoots what ppl think. way way better than a bike through the city, but i know owning a couple of bikes is not an option to all ppl.

so really, who has a GT C400 here or the c400x ? how are they going for you, longevity, issues / fuel consumption if not ragging it all the time etc, whats it like two up ? my one gripe with the GT is no cruise control, lieke would it really cost bmw that much to add it onto the two c400 variants ?

any input would be great from past or previous owners.

tks.

I have one! Mine is a 2023 C400X with under 2000 miles on it.

Personally. I would not buy a new one at £8500-£9500.
There are several mint low Milage examples in the UK with BMW warranty for around £5000.

Top speed is around 87 mph. It will do 80 with ease. 80 mpg or more easily achievable.
Fitted with a rack and top box it’s comfortable for the pillion. Large heated seat and big footrests.

Good luggage space under seat, 2 cubbyholes in the front fairing.
Built in satnav is ok. But I use an iPhone on a Quadlock mount.

Having twin front discs, the brakes are outstanding. It has good weather protection even with the standard screen. I have a larger screen for the winter. You can fit BMW handguards for warmer hands.

The one thing that put me off was the TFT. It’s the same as a R1250GS. But with a very boring display.
This can now be changed with a GS-911 tool. Done mine a few months ago. Much much better. So you can now have all the info you might need.

I will probably be selling mine very soon. Nothing wrong with it. Just need to keep the bike buying average up.

Thats a lovely looking scoot Nick. Im 12 months into Vespa 300gts ownership and find the whole grab and go feel of scooters a positive experience. I agree on not buying new as in addition to yours, BMW dealers sometimes have very low mileage demos at keen prices.

This is my local dealer in Chester

@Ban_6 - did you buy a C400 in the end ? Or has anyone else bought one in the meantime ?

Other than seeing lots of them on the continent I'ver never really given scoots much thought but I was in Keary's the other day & they have a C400X as a demonstrator. It would have been rude not to try it
I only did about 60+km but rode motorway as well as N, R & L roads but I was very pleasantly surprised with how it went & handled, at no point did I think I needed more of anything that it had. Alright, it's not a GS but I reckon it would be great around town & I'd have no reservations about touring on it with the addition of a topbox or tailpack (I travel fairly light)
I might suggest to SWMBO that, really, we only need one car & a scoot....

I’d say you’d be better off with a Forza or ADV 350. Much cheaper , faster , probably more reliable

@Ban_6 Or has anyone else bought one in the meantime ?

I very nearly purchased another a few weeks back.

Sytner in Wolverhampton and Warwick had a couple of C400X in that brown colour.
They were around 6 months old with 750 miles.
Think I could have purchased either for £5000 or less.

I think there a good scooter. Certainly not slow and have twin front discs and heated seat that the Honda doesn’t have. Also a 3 year warranty if purchased new.

I’m glad I held off. Money went towards a couple of larger BMW’s.

I've just bought a C400x.
Live it so far, haven't used it a lot yet.
Less luggage capacity as Honda variants, but heated grips and seat as standard.
Reliability probably not as high as Japanese options.

I bought a forza 350 new in 2022, some of the best fun I've had on two wheels, suspension was shite though, as was the key less ignition..:(

I have think I bought one of those. Not a fan of red wheels but deal was good.

I'm still not used to the exhaust sound.. 😁

I noticed the silencer has changed on the newer BMW scooters.
Possibly more strangled?

I have a mint 2023 version silencer going cheap.
Or vroom vroom.

Some very positive feedback regarding the Bmw so all in all I reckon it will be on my radar sometime in the future. I like how quirky they are in the styling department.

I bought a brand-new Adv 350 when they came out but the back is so wide it wasn’t comfortable for a pillion as the fairing sticks out and it’s quite sharp and you nearly have to bend your legs around the fairing to reach the rear pegs, which is far from ideal. One up it was fine. Poor design. Having had two XADV750’s they were great but suspension left me wanting, the rear shock is terrible and it has no range at all. But different strokes and all that.

I had a long time Yamaha itch, So….. I ended up buying a 2021 560 Tmax Tech Max late last year and I upgraded to a newer model. For me to Tmax 560 far out done the Honda XAdv 750 if you were more sporty rider. Honda is more bike over the Tmax. Xadv is still great but I e had two so moved on. The Yamaha is way better chassis and suspension setup over the Honda.

The Tmax Tech Max is loaded with goodies all of the touch of a button, including the heated seat and electric screen and inbuilt satnav.. Finish is superb. my only gripe with the Tmax is the 15 L tank but it will do 150 to 180 miles a tank depending on your riding style. Loving it I gotta say. But they’re v v expensive.

Michael Neeves from MCN put up a video a couple of days ago of his one which means the same colour as and all his videos about the team speak for themselves.

Scooters are brilliant end of story, but again I know people who wouldn’t be seen on one because they don’t have the street cred but for me , commuting and knocking about at the weekend or planning a trip to the Tmax is hard to beat with its smooth Belt drive. Or going for a blast!

Funny you should mention the fat arse in the ADV. That is one thing that swayed me to the bmw. Unless you really need that storage space, it is wide. Also like the styling on both but prefer the bmw.
Shame I never got to see the Zontes but I'm very happy with the purchase.
