I've been a Dainese stalwart for many years now, but I'm thinking of buying one of these Rally 2 jackets at the moment. So who has one (or the previous version) and how do you rate it for comfort, practicality, warmth etc etc.

OR, do you become the corpoate clone buy going down the BM clothing route ?

Dainese

However, I did try on this new jacket from Dainese which is really nice. Have to say that it's possibly more than I need as it's maybe aimed at the all year round rider (of which I'm not :P ) and maybe I'd be better off going for something 'lighter'. The other thing is that if I stick with Dainese, my leather breeks can be zipped into whatever I buy, tho' I will be buying a set of textile trousers to go with either choice.

Thoughts anyone ?

Bmw ....

I have the Red versin of the Rally suit, which i have to say is lovely inthe summer with all the vents. Not the warmest for winter riding. I have seen the new one, and they have added waterproof pockets which the earlier model did not have. It is expensive, and if i was doing it again, i would buy RUKKA. Have a look at the air suit with gortex removable liner.5 year warranty on the Rukka as well.

I have the grey/yellow Rallye 2. Its great from spring to late autumn, but (for me anyway) its not warm enough through winter. However, I recognise that its not really meant for winter. Iin the warmer weather its spot on, as the vents do what it says on the tin. The detachable bum bag on the back is a good idea, as it means you can carry stuff with you when off the bike, and leave the jacket in the panniers for example.

Bit expensive i s'pose, but so far, its been worth it.

Down this way Dainese is the ONLY gear to have.

BMW stuff is just for people that didn't know where the Dainese shop was :D

I'm a recent convert to BWM stuff since buying the GS. Up 'till then all my gear was Dainese. I think the Dainese stuff is beautifully designed and very high quality. You don't appreciate the fit until you try cheaper gear :thumb I liked the idea that it would zip to my existing leathers, however it didn't look 'enduro' enough for me. More of a 'city' jacket if you know what I mean.

I tried the jacket (pictured above) but decided to go with the Rallye 2 Pro suit because:

1. The Rallye suit is better vented and I do more riding in the summer
2. I can always add more layers and wind stop protection under the Rallye suit
3. The Rallye suit has the Goretex on the inside - better if you intend to get dirty / dusty
4. I'm a dreadfull poser and it matched my new Tour-X Challenge Red (well at least I'm honest :dabone )

Further to my post above, in the interests of impartiallity, I also have a Dianese gortex jacket which I have owned for maybe 7/8 years. It cost me £460 then, and its still going strong, although a little worn in places now. However, I stil wear it through the winter, as its lovely and warm. I suspect it will go on for some time yet as well. Although a lot of money back then, and still a lot of money now  , it has clearly been worth it. Of those 7 to 8 years, it was worn everyday for at least six of them.

SO I think it was a Good Buy, and supports that theory that Dianese kit is worth the dosh.

Now thats muddied the waters a bit hasn't it? :D

ive just bought one hope i like it

I bought a Dainese 'Baker' Goretex jacket (for 150 was 260) and 'Galvestone' trousers (for 160 were 200) in the january sales. Warm, dry and comfortable so far but may be too warm for the summer :nenau

Well, it's looking more and more like the Dainese Gator jacket will be the jacket (or suit) of choice. I've spent time trying on both jackets and although I really do like the style of the BMW Rally2, the cut, feel, features and to a small degree price are growing on me in favour of Dainese. I do have some reservations (of which I'm waiting for a reply from Dainese about another jacket), but I suppose I keep thinking about how good all my other Dainese clothing has been over the years.

Bearing in mind that tomorrow's another day.......... ;) :thumb

Dainese won the day

:D WooHoo. :thumb Dainese won the battle of the jackets and I for me, it's the right choice. Especially after seeing the Clone Army before their run out on May Day. :P Anyways, seems a good piece of kit. :)

Hope it work for you.

I have a red Rally II for three years, all-year riding, daily commute plus tours, hols etc. Can't fault it. In winter I wear more stuff underneath - but thinking of a heated waistcoat as I get older.
