I picked up my new GS yesterday and it has the new for 2026 model year smaller CRN cradle. SOOOOO much better looking. Much smaller. A welcome surprise.
It has a small button underneath that only operates when the ignition is switched on. Press it and up pops a red marked doofer out the top and its unlocked. So its only operational when the bike is. Not linked to the central locking as such. It has a removable cover for the connection pins, if you don't have anything connected to it.

Was just about to post that the cradle change came in around July as part of the 2026 Model year updates. However my attention is piqued by the green light symbol next to the adaptive height icon, guessing you also got the adaptive headlight option as well?see my reply here in the other thread.......

Yes I did get the adaptive headlight option. Obviously being a bloke I haven't read the manual yet! I assumed the A in the head light symbol was automatic....same as my BMW car. Ill have to get out at night and have a play with it.

Not the cheapest of upgrades....but it is BMW....comment on a Facebook group suggests the cradle* should work on 25 model yr bikes, hopefully someone will be able to prove one way or the other before too long.
* Not sure if it also needs the cable as well, or whether it will work with older cradle power feed cable. To be investigated!
I have a 2025 r1300 gs with the old type thinking of upgrading to this new system then I can use old unit on my r12g/s

Apologies, just noticed my link seems to have pulled in details from the new RT for some reason, rather than GS specific info, was sure I was on the GS "branch" of the fiche. Moral of the story "check twice, post once!" I'm guessing they will be common shared parts/numbers in any event. Nor had I spotted the link from Avelingporter in the post just prior. Ironically my local dealer but I've never really thought to check their parts portal. All useful info,thanks.
I don't think the new mount is related to the "central locking"
its just with the key on, the little hidden electric release button is powered up and so you can get the thing to release - with the key off all power to the new nav mount is dead so it can't be released

If it is not linked to the central locking, I guess it is just relying on having a power supply which locks it when it is off. If so, I wonder if it will fit earlier models?
people have fitted them without issue (allegedly), I would stick with the old reliable one - some die in the showroom during handover - you have to force the Nav very hard against the cradle or its weak mechanism gives up

Had issues with mine. Definitely not as easy as the old set up.

Nonsense - one handed finger on the button at the bottom and it pops forward at the top and it's in your hand.
There was a problem with Carabc 6 inch units ...it was them that were far too tight in the cradle. Most of the other ones click in like a dream (I have 3 ...no, don't ask why lol).
There is a potential issue, that I've not tested, in that the restraint is at the top and when it unlocks a couple of tabs pop up - I'm thinking that with a sharp slim something you could snag those pop ups and pull them up without the electrics. And besides, if anyone wants your display they break off easy enough anyway. There are little to no reports in the UK of folks pinching your CarPlay.

I might be able to enlighten you a little on this. My (old style) cradle broke, in the sense that it just wouldn't release the Carpuride that was mounted in it (it was unlocked). I eventually needed to use brut force to extract it because every other attempt at releasing those teeth/pins just didn't work. The level of force needed was extreme and it broke one of the pins in the cradle and one of the lugs on the Carpuride. Vandals and determined thieves know all about brut force but to the casual thief I don't think they'd get it off.
I thought they were talking about the new electronic mounts from late 2025 onwards? that's what I have and have no issues with mounting or unmounting.
Obviously if something breaks then that is clearly another problem.
The Carabc problem was just they got the dimensions just a tad tight I think and some said it was difficult to click into place without a lot of force.
