As has the 1200 my friend!

I saw a brand spanking new 990 at the gym yesterday and had a go on one last week. What beauty! The 990 simply murders the 1200. Only somebody with attachment to the BMW brand would go for a 1200 after seeing and riding a 990

Have they sorted the brakes for the 990?

I test rode a 950 for a few hours, and the brakes were bad enough to put me off completely. It felt like being back on drum brakes.

Had I thought it was a duff example, I would not have been put off, but the guys at Bracken basically said that I should not expect a 200kg bike to stop well

The problem isn't quality control, nor is it that BWM bikes have become crap..they haven't.

The problem is that they replaced the already slightly suspect 11xx rear bearing with one that was even lower load rated.....they've also put the same bearing )although a different swing arm casing ) on the 1200Adv......

The 1200 is actually a nice bike......it has some great innovations (canbus for one....that's clever and seems completely reliable) butwith the rear bearing as it is, I wouldn't buy one

They wont be as powerful as a servo'd 1200GS.

I also found mine a bit weak, but after bleeding them and refilling the fluid they were much better. There was quite a bit of air in both calipers so bleeding made a lot of difference. Dont forget that there's quite a bit of fork dive which absorbs the initial braking force.

I cant remember much about the 990 I tried, but I wasn't keen on any of that ABS stuff following my fun on the 1200GS, which is why I went for the 950.

there are six horror sories on the main page as i look at it now
the gs has given me a lot of pleasure ...and a lot of frustration
but it seems like one of those hollywood superstars two or three great films ...

then streight into the betty ford clinic for therepy maby in four or five years the phsychiatrists wil have cought up with treatment or even better cure !! and keep all those beauitiful actors in permanent work
then i may go to see them again ...nothings forever
