SWMBO has given me a day out at the off road school for my birthday - although she hasn't actually booked anything. Any thoughts on what the DITD is like to get a taste of what a GS can do? I'm currently on an 1100 but I haven't ridden off road for about 30 years

TIA
Dick

Sorry folks

Just realised there's a rider training section to this forum - perhaps a kind mod could move this thread?

Bit stingy to only give you one day!:augie I thought the course was two?:D

It's great fun! I hadn't ridden proper off road for 20 odd years so was a tad nervous but shouldn't have been. They break you down into groups and try and make an assessment of your capabilities early on so they can put similar experienced/capable people together. I couldn't decide which bike to do it on so whimped out and went for the 800GS. I was concerned that if I had to spent all day picking a 1200 up I'd be knackered by the end of it! For me it was the right choice. The guys on 1200's found it harder going, but it's all down to ability. Also rode a 650 for a while but found that too small and underpowered.

Whatever you decide you'll love it! Well run by a really nice bunch of guys who want you to have a good time.:thumb

Do give them a call - they are very helpful - but I am led to believe that a Day in The Dirt is only available to those riders who have actually completed one of their training courses...

There is a chance to ride the same area as an introduction / tester at the travel event Touratech are running later this year - see this thread:
