Just bought myself one of the new BMW Enduro helmets this afternoon. Quite a nice helmet, much quieter than my previous Caberg, but once I reach speeds of 65mph+ I start to get a deep resonance sound and my eyeballs start to jiggle from the vibration. The resonance and vibration starts at about 65mph and grows steadily until everythings a blurr!

Having read through the BMW booklet that accompanied the helmet, they recommend removing the peak for high speed riding. Haven't tried it yet without the peak.

Anyone else experienced this problem with the BMW Enduro?

Peak

Yes same when l tried it nice lid apart from the resonance was ok without peak was very windy when l tried it thought that might be the problem but seems not.

Thanks for the feedback guys, afraid on the basis of that it's not for me.

It`ll be turbulence from your screen.

Combined with how high you`re sitting, and the angle your head`s at.

My Bell Moto 6 can give the same symptoms around 85mph upwards,so I just angle my head down very slightly, and the 'rough air' then goeas around my crash helmet instead of battering into it.

I'm sure someone could fix this quote ref "bell", "helmet" & "head". But I'll settle for for Tarka and "rough 'air" in the same sentence :D :D :D

I thought it may be something like that Tarka, but I spent an hour yesterday afternoon going on short high speed runs to try and (rationally) compare the noise and turbulence of the new helmet vs. my old Caberg.

While the Caberg was definately MUCH noiser, I never got any turbulence - at least nowhere near as the Enduro. I'm sure that while out riding with the Enduro on I would (though perhaps not as consciously as you're suggesting) moved my head around at different angles. I didn't detect any noticeable difference.

I'm a short arse with a lower seat so (generally) sitting quite well down.

If I get the chance for a run this afternoon (family committments permitting), I'll try it as you've suggsted and also without the peak.

I was sorely tempted to take the BMW Enduro back for a refund but decided on balance that as it was so much quieter than the old Caberg I could probably live with just removing the peak for the occasional high speed motorway run to get to somewhere exotic!

Had a look and a try on yesterday.

Until the moment I got my hands on it I was considering buying one.

The helmet is impressively light but the visor is very thin and needs two hands to close properly because it flexes so much and what's with the double D-ring? I thought that had gone out with the Ark? :nenau

Peter the Tour-X does exactly the same thing much as Tarka said, my solution taller screen and a good pair of ear plugs "no problem" :D

Double D is MUCH safer than a seat belt type fastening.

You pull it tight every time you use it which means that the helmet is always fitted properly with no loose strap. The others can work loose or slack over time.

But then I'm very old, and HATE the seat belt type closure.

People in South Africa can not confirm for me, can you move the visor up and down like the Arai TourX, and use a goggles with the visor in place. Any other big differences between the lids?

we will only get it to end September........basteeds

Thanks Shaun. Been using earplugs for some time now.
Seems I have the choice of either buying a taller screen or removing the peak for high speed runs. I really like the height of my current screen and am loath to change it just to accommodate a peak ..........better start practicing at rapid peak removal and replacement :D

Thanks for the suggestions though and it's nice to hear that I'd get a similar problem with the Tour X which would have been my other choice. I really like the lighter weight of the BMW helmet though...

Hi Michus,

Yes you can move the visor up and down with the peak in place, though the visor is flimsy and needs a whole hand across the visor to push it closed.

You can remove the visor and replace it with goggles very easily. The visor removal simply requires a small coin and a quarter turn on the fastener on each side of the helmet. The visor then simply comes away.

Not sure why you'd want to use goggles with the visor in place .......
I haven't taken too close a look at the Tour X, but I'd guess the differences are relatively marginal ...

This was one of the reasons why I was interested in the helmet, I'll explain.

In the summer, it's nice to have more air-flow through the helmet that goggles provide while still giving eye protection.

If you run into rain you can just pull the goggles down around your neck (or onto the chin-bar) and lower the visor.

Well that's my reason. :nenau

Stupid me. I thought he was referring to wearing the goggles over the Visor! Duh! :banghead:

Enduro

Glad I tuned in this evening. I had looked at the Tour-X many times and almost committed. Saw the enduro last week at my dealers. Intended to purchase the Enduro this evening after work, but got held up a bit and never made it. I will put it on hold a few days until we progress with this thread.

In case any other owners have my statistics.... I am a 5"10" on an 1150 Adventure with standard screen........... Am I going to get turbulance???

Will try the dealers, but doubt if they will let me take it for a 20 minute test drive....................... Anybody from Hurst BMW listening out there?

Thought about purchasing the new Enduro helmet but decided to go with the tried and tested Tour X several days ago. Comfy, quite quiet and more robust than BMW.
Tried the new one at Hursts but it IMHO does not have the quality feel, look of the Arai.

Visor

Just bought my Enduro helmet, don't pick the bike up until Saturday so can't test how it goes...fingers crossed it will be OK as I didn't read this thread until after I parted with the cash !

What I did log on for was to see if anyone knows how/where to get hold of the tinted visor. The dealer tells me that they are not available in the UK but should be able to get one easily from a French/German dealer via the internet. Anyone tried this?

My dealer mentioned a place on the Isle of Man that does them, but to be honest I wasn't really listening because I wasn't interested in getting one .... Sorry! Will pay more attention next time.
