And getting stiffer ! I am beginning to wonder if something is going to snap if I lever it much more. Is there something that I should lubricate or shall I take it back? 9 months old.
:D

When I bought mine my dealer reccomended silicone oil on the sliding surfaces ie between the two moveable case 'shells' where they meet.
You only need to apply a very little as it 'creeps' very well.

I've done this since new and use my panniers a lot - 10,000 miles later and they still work as new.

A drop of 3 in 1 oil or similar on the metal pivots in the expanding mechanism too, that's what I did anyway.

Make sure there's no grit etc trapped between the sliding pastic surfaces.

Are you applying this lube to the exterior or interior of the pannier? On the raised rib sections only, or...?

I expand the case and then run a small line along where the the two shells meet and then expand and contract the panniers a few times to work the silicone oil in.

I've only applied it to the outside 'cos that seemed easier but I guess either inside or outside would make little difference.

Seriously consider taking it back - you might find that one day you arrive at destination with no luggage.

Have a look at the "top box failure picture thread"
