I've been speaking to a dealer in Germany and have been quoted 1000Euro for a full set of hard metal luggage including locks, VAT but not fitting as I'd take them to london on a plane as my luggage, strapped together and full of my stuff.

XE.com says thats about £716... can't find uk prices?

Is that a good price or not?

1200GSA...

Although I've found the answer already!

Its cheaper to get from germany... act like a mule and import them up my a*s:angel

Hi Tony BTW (you know who you are:hide)

Gareth.

Be very careful when it comes to taking them on the plane, the inner edges have projecting "lugs" which engage on the frames which will make it difficult to strap them together.

Best option is to keep them in their shipping boxes if you can, put your stuff in them and tape the boxes up again.

UK prices without discount are:

Topcase: £390.65
Panniers: £562.36

TOTAL: £953.01

Buying with bike or negotiating you'll easily get 10% discount, so £857

You'd also need to get hold of the bits to re-code the locks which dealers don't always want to give you.

I also went for the inner bags for the panniers as they're not waterproof due to distortion when loaded. I understand the topbox is OK from that standpoint. Haven't tested this theory yet though.

Overall looks like a good price :thumb2

I may give my dealer a call tomorrow to discuss luggage before I actually collect my GSA. The bike already has the pannier case fitting option. Looking at the accessory list, what do I actually need to order?? I don't want the top case, just the side cases.

I'm assuming:

Pannier (left and right)
What lock option do I need (since I dont want the top case)?
Inner bags (left and right)

Ta!

If you've already got the rack you only need the panniers. The dealer should do the key coding in with the price i.e. make the panniers lock/unlock with your ignition key. Inner bags are an option, but I bought them on the wisdom from this forum. Don't really want wet gear on a tour. The liners are expensive though - about £60 each.

BMW luggage has a good re-sale value though, so you'll get at least 60-70% of your money back if you sell separately when you come to sell the bike.

There are a few lock options which I'm not quite clear on...

1. complete lock set for 2 cases and a top case - 45.71
2. lock cylinder mounting kit (order 3x per pannier) - 15.20 (what's that??)

I'm assuming I just need option 1 above?

Set of eight locks. Total cost 45.71 (plus two spares)

Individual lock. Total cost 91.20

Your choice!!!

Just checked my invoice and I didn't have any separate line items for locks and the panniers were quoted as "Panniers Complete" - so I'm assuming that is inclusive of all locks and coding.

Quick question for you guys with the 1200GSA panniers. Do the panniers mark the rack at all? Is it worth putting some kind of clear protective film over the parts of the rack that come into contact with the pannier?

Bike has just arrived with the panniers pre-fitted and if it's an issue then it may be worth preventing it from the get go.

Cheers

I have the standard panniers on mine, and there have not been any marks yet in the first 3 months.
