Reliving bike trips whilst sat at my desk....
Has a single fork seal done there. Firstly, told it was covered by warranty, so took it down. Called at lunch to be told it was all done: great, but wasn't covered by warranty: bad. Also that I was going to be charged over £170

Was I called to tell me that I'd have to pay, and did I want to continue? No. On top of that, did I also get charged for the other fork as well, even though the seal was intact? Yes. (I know that they are usually replaced at the same time)
Did I get a discount due to this? Eventually, yes, but they sounded like they were doing me a favour , even though I had Which? on the other line just waiting to pounce.

So pick the bike up. Firstly the keys couldn't be found, then I notice that my tank cover is missing, then I see that the rubber grommits on top of the forks are missing and finally that the rubber sleeve along the front edge of the tank was not on properly! Priceless...... Do they train to get it this wrong, or is a natural talent?

Although, to be fair the blokes at the desk, were very polite and helpful as was their manager, so they did salvage some brownie points.

Will I go back: jury definitely out. Don't like having to pre-delivery check my own bike after a techie has had it for the afternoon... :spitfire

Feck, if you're in Wandsworth why are you pissing about with dealers for an 1150? Steptoe is just down the road!

That's a beer you owe me, Neil! :thumb

Ordinarily, I would have done, but the bike still has 2 months of used bike warranty that I had been told, when I booked the bike, covered the work on the seal. Hence the visit... ;)

It is covered!

I've just had mine done on used bike warantee - 3 months left!

Give 'em hell.

Would have been about £70 for both seals all parts and labour, and a free loan bike -

just thought i'd let you know, and make you feel better :D :D

Gimme details!!!

Pm me if you prefer, Andy... Cheers.

Neil: As it happens I paid about £10 more than that, not counting the loan bike so ites not too bad, but as I said earlier, had I known before hand that it was not covered, I would have been on the phone to you....

i did say £70 - not £170

It's all public anyway re: my thanking of dealer a couple threads down :)

1150GS 2002 on BMW used warantee, started Sept 05. Both seals failed. BMW Sawbridgeworth (Hertsford) replaced on warantee.

The dealer rings up BMW customer care who make a decision on whether it is be covered or not "claim". They didn't look at service history for this and i'd done 10k when it failed end of March (they do ask for mileage this to file it).

Ask your dealer who they spoke to originally. Demand the telephone number from them if no leeway. Anything which breaks (that is not down to negligence) is covered so remind them of the Sales of Goods Act.

Also, the warantee costs the dealer just over £300 when you buy it. I suspect if you claim over this they start to get a little etchy. ;)

I mean they gave me a discount because of their balls-up that worked out at about a tenner more than what you normally charge, not counting the courtesy bike. Basically, I have not been shafted quite as comprehensively asI might have been, IYKWIM...

Thanks for the info... I shall look into it, as long as my mental motor doesn't slip into "I can't be fecked anymore" gear

Warthhog, was it you that bought my Y-pipe and helped with the valve clearances? If so I told you to go to Sawbridgeworth with me didn't I!! ;)
