BMW INSURANCE - ARE THEY HAVING A LAUGH?

YTS and BMW Motorrad Insurance.

I phoned Devitt/NIG to change bikes, all I had from my dealer was the RT Chassis no., so I told the guy the no. and said as soon as I had a reg no. he'd know. Fine, that was Thursday, today certificate arrived showing Reg. No. (no, don't laugh, it's the cheapest personal plate Iv'e owned) CHA 551 S :dabone Not only that, they doubled up and set two seperate lots of docs. PLUS a cover note for Fred Jory for an R850R  Gawd help anyone claiming :spitfire :nono :ymca

1100gs no garage/ no alarm /fully comp/ unlimited milage / breakdown cover /£1000 luggage cover /£116 ebike :D

I went with ebike for the very same reasons. Also 39 with 2yrs NCB with bike not garaged.

ebike quoted £247 fully comp..... thankyou very much. :D

BMW insurance unbelievably bad.

I have swapped to BMW insurance but only because it was free. Even free of charge it doesn't look like good value due to their total incompetence.

I won a draw at the NEC bike show for one years free insurance up to £500. It took me several phone calls to get anywhere with them. I've been waiting weeks for the paperwork to come. I specifically asked for a green card at the time of taking the policy as I'm one of the group "Chasing the Dakar" and going to the BMW party in Lisbon next week. At first they told me I would be covered fully comp in Morocco providing it was part of a BMW organised event or third party only if travelling idependently. I honestly told them that the Lisbon trip was with World of BMW but the trip to Morocco was on our own so accepted third party only for Morocco.

I've been waiting for the paperwork for the last few weeks but today was last date to receive it as we leave first thing on Tuesday 27th.

Just had a phone call from them telling me that the underwriters will not cover me at all in Lisbon or Morocco! I tried to tell them that Portugal is in EU and automatically covered and that they told me twice that Morocco would be covered. So basically they are now telling me that riding a BMW bike to an official BMW event with BMW insurance in an EU country and I'm not covered!!!!

They have just phoned back and said "sorry, all sorted now. You are covered after all but you won't have any paperwork to show but the underwriters said you don't need any". I then asked the young lady on the phone if she had ever tried to cross the border into Morocco with no insurance paperwork but funnily enough she had never tried that. I managed it earlier this year after my originals were stolen in Spain. It looks like I will need to spend time being creative again with my lazer printer if you get my drift...

I wish I had stuck with Bennetts.

What with my letter in MCN this week about BMW UKs help with my tyre queries and now this, I doubt if I'll be guest of honour at the BMW event?

Saw your letter in MCN :thumb

Drop the motorrad insurance and go for either Carol Nash or MC Direct who will insure you through Norwich Union (I hate to admit it) who will perform like proffesionals...and give you a real green card.

I had the same sh*te when trying to arrange cover for a 3 bike trip to Romania - I must have spent a fortune on mobile calls....

Doesnt matter how cheap they are if a claim leads to major dramas. We all think we will never claim but you cannot account for stupid third parties. Avoid BMW insurance like the plague. :spitfire

Riders Choice

If anyone who has read this far through this thread is about to ring round trying to arrange insurance...
Try this bloke at Riders Choice (part of Premium Choice)
Ronnie 0121 311 3184.
Not sure how competetive he will be on Beemers specifically, but he currently insures a ZX9 AND GSXR750 for me for £285.
Most importantly, unlike the cheap Beemer insurance mentioned above, Ronnies service is second to none.
No, he's not a relation; I just think recommendation counts for a lot.

used riders choice when I was a member of the mcn Ninjas web site really good for my zx6 but not for the GS1200 BMW insurance was even cheaper than e-bike for me.

piggyp

been with carol nash last 3 years just got renewal its gone up 150 sqid to 453of my hard earned rung bmw 184 fc including ncb protection bugger me its a difficult choice

get yourself on a iam course most of it is commonsence and maybe lie about your age no but yeah but no sorry gone somewhere completely different .the advanced does make a considerable difference my premium is only £145.00f/c but again i am an old giffer compared to you

One month on and still nothing received from them yet.

Phoned them up again (must be 10th call) and told that "yes, they now have all the paperwork on file". "Well what about sending it to me then?" I asked. "The underwriters told us there was no need to send anything to you as just your policy document and insurance certificate would be sufficient". Perhaps it might have been if I had even managed to receive that, but so far I've received nothing. They've agreed to send me "another" copy today.

Even with the insurance being free of charge it still looks overpriced. You get what you pay for I suppose and I paid nothing. Just feel sorry for anyone who paid out money to these clowns.

BMW Insurance managed to lose some papers on my old theft claim so they forgot to pay it.

Ended up paying me a quite decent settlement actually.......

Additional premium for new bike:
£20 - 5 premium and 15 admin

I'm 39, 2 years NCD, bike not garaged, BMW/Devitt quoted £691 fully comp.

ebike offered £299.

A bit of a no-brainer, but what are BMW playing at? Nearly £400 difference in premiums!!

How do they stay in business?

  [/QI got a quote of ebike and bmw beat it by £26.00. £276.00 fully comp for a R1200gs not bad but i am now 40 it cost me £326.00 last year what a difference a year makes.

I won too!

I won free BMW insurance at the NEC too - seems my policy is worth £318, full NCD, 41, '53 1150GS - Leeds. I was looking to renew at about £280 with motorcycle direct and that was without some of the extras.

Seemed to take ages to get through, but since then they've been fine.

In my experience it doesn't matter much how much you pay the broker, the policy is always with a big player. I got the swiftest, staightest turnaround when I paid very little for tpft on an xt350 that got swiped - top money, no argument, settled in a couple of weeks.

Insurance is a master stoke for a competition prize, high value but good odds that it won't have any cost.

Dave

Just received my renewal from BMW at £315, fully comp, not garaged, with added cover to ride a C1 and that's with protected NCB. ebike wanted £320, Bennetts £390 and NU a remarkable £650. Seems OK to me - and I'm too lazy to check anymore! :D

I just had my renewal through from BMW and I couldn't believe how much it had gone up. Last year, my first year with a BMW bike and BMW insurance, I paid somewhere around the £360 mark for my Rockster, luggage & heated grips. Then the renewal came through last week and I was so shocked I ripped it up straight away. No claims made so why had it gone up to £440ish (I say 440ish because I can't remember the figure spot on because I ripped it up so quickly)

I've taken out insurance with EBIKE for £200. If I claim, the excess is less with ebike and everything else in the policy seems about the same.

So, yes, Dave, BMW are having a laugh.

Mine was £285 with BMW, now looking likely to get a fireblade and with Bennetts I can get it for £280. Obviously a much safer proposition on a blade!
