Earlier threads seem remarkably simlier to my first dealings alst Feb........

Bought the GS from Williams Manchester, got the cover at the same time. Cover note arrived. NO CERTIFICATE......

About 5 weeks later, i got a letter from BMW insurance saying that i had 7 days to furnish them with a certificate of fitting for datatag, or my policy would be cancelled!!

This shook me as my (BMW bought) bike doesn't have datatag!! They were informed.

Approximately 4 months later, i went direct to BMW Insurance instead of Willilams, and the proper certificate arrived within 2 days.

What's that saying, something about an Organ and a Monkey Grinder ??? :monkeypiz

BMW insurance

I had a different but serious problem when dealing direct with Divots administered BM scheme. I accepted a telephone quote and gave credit card details over the phone. Five weeks later, no debit to my card and no documents received from Divots. Needless to say, they denied any record of the original quotation or my acceptance of this, so me and my £8k bike had been uninsured.

Good experience with Carole Nash admin.

Their policies and procedures internally are apalling, they lose paperwork then say they've never received it. They lie and threaten to cancell your insurance if you don't send them immediatly the documentation they (haven't yet) asked you for and it's all your fault. I've personally put in a note to the insurance ombudsman about their activities because of they way they act.

Then again, they could have changed <fx manic laughter>

No. They haven't changed. This is EXACTLY what's been happening to me.

I hadn't picked up on this thread before but I have had similar problems with Devitt and documentation. I recieved 2 letters saying that I needed to send in a log book or my policy would be cancelled (This was a multi bike policy with a Brand New R1200GS as the main bike). I phoned them to sort things out and got the seemingly usual "its standard computer generated bla bla bla" then got another letter, this time recorded delivery, saying my policy HAD been cancelled. I called them again and they said everything was okay. I explained that the last communication I had with them said everything was not okay and would they send another letter saying that I am indeed insured..."If you really want to we can" was the response.

My new Policy with Norwich Union starts on March 10th at £85 cheaper as well.

But why do they treat their customers in this undeniably shabby manner?

It's utterly unacceptable.

I've written to the top BMW man today and also to the FSA enclosing copies of every communication - even the tape copies from the phone conversations.

It always amazes me that these companies tell you that they're recording your conversation for 'training' purposes. Then when you eventually get through to a human being and tell them that you're recording their conversation so they'd better be accurate and polite, they get very snitty about it. Bastewards!

Hmmm...

Haven't used them for a claim (thankfully!), so can't comment on that. Have used them for last 4 years and everything has worked perfectly - reminder to renew arrives in plenty of time, I renew, they send out documents!
They have had a recent change of broker, but conditions are OK and premium is low. Now have protected no-claims bonus...
I'll be staying with them.

Just changed from Devitt's to Carole Nash because they were so snotty when I rang to ask them to look at the renewal premium - "Sorry, sir, your quotation was carefully checked before we sent it." Carole Nash immediately knocked 50 quid off it, so got the business.

Wrote to Devitt's last week and cancelled, enclosed the quote with a polite note. Read all this stuff at work and come home to find a letter from Devitt's to the effect "Since we have not heard from you, you are no longer insured with us and you'd better watch out Plod doesn't get you."

Riders of the White Knuckle, the lot of 'em

Used the new quote&buy system on the BMW Motorrad website. Paid £150 fully comp for my R100GS. Problem with server could not complete transaction (now fixed I think) so I spoke to someone over the phone who took my details. All paperwork including certificate of insurance arrived in 4 days. Paperwork states I can ride service loan bikes on my cover, Bennets and Carol Nash tend to exclude this.

I've been using BMW insurance for some years and so far so good.

BUT having read this thread and this one:

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=39626

it reminded me of a little blip last year which has now got me worried.

I got a letter confirming my renewal and Certificate of Insurance on 7th August. In a letter dated 12 August, they said they had not received my renewal instructions and were cancelling the policy (together with the offensive paragraph that it is a criminal offence, etc etc).

I spoke to them on receipt and received an apology and confirmation that I was definitely insured and fully covered.

I'm nervous now and an email is about to wing its way to Devitts.

I have tried BMW for my insurance but they refused me because of my job, I work offshore. The guy I spoke to on the phone was at a complete loss as to why. Had previously been with motorcycle direct so went back to them and got an online quote which came in at 1200 quid fully comp for GS adventure. Tried Bennetts they came back with 600 quid. motorcycle direct came on the phone to see why I hadn't renewed with them. when I told them bennetts price and they came down from 1200 to 595. Insurance companies will have your eyes out if you dont play one against another. I have never had to make a claim so cant comment about claims.

Well thats my little rant!
