Can anyone help with advice about "fully comp" insurance for Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia & Herzogovina? Very long story but my normal insurance (Cornmarket) have been really unhelpful. I have normal EU wide insurance. However for the above three countries, they only give me 3rd party insurance. I want to go there for about 10 days in Sept/Oct this year. I would like to have fully comp across those countries. Does anyone know how I can get this extra cover? Google hasn't been much help. Some people mention buying it when you get to the border but I don't want to leave it until then and not be able to find what I want. Not sure where to look on the internet. Thanks in advance.

Can be purchased on the border, but will only be 3d party

my car and bike policies cover these countries. The bike is with Hastings and I get 90 days full cover in those countries as well as the EU, CH, Andorra and Norway. They are EU succession countries and have joined the pan Euro scheme. The car is with Saga so not relevant to bikes. After the 90 days, cover drops to the legal minimum required.
Cornmarket is a broker I believe. The coverage will be decided by your underwriter. They should be able to find you an underwriter that offers similar terms to Hastings (who underwrite their own policies via a sister company).
In my previous bike policy from Devitt, underwritten by Aviva, I only had cover for Serbia. I would hope that Aviva have also added B&H and Montenegro in the 18 months since that policy started.

The Border is the easiest just make sure it is a more main crossing.

I would be amazed if the policy you bought at the border crossing, provided the fully comprehensive cover the OP is looking for. I strongly suspect it was some sort of ‘legal minimum’ third part liability only cover.

The link you provided looks like it provides third party liability cover only.

Cornmarket is indeed a broker / intermediary.

Whilst in theory they should be able to find an alternative insurer, it is possible that Cornmarket have entered into a binding agreement that they will only deal with insurer XYZ or ABC. It is also possible that Cornmarket has not established day-to-day trading relationships with other insurers and won’t set about setting one up for just one customer.

Me? If I’d exhausted my hunt for an insurer prepared to give me what I wanted and failed and / or if the cost to take up the alternative offer was too high, I’d go to the countries with ‘third party only’ cover and do my best not to damage my bike or have it stolen for the 10 day period.

No it was not comprehensive and it does make you wonder whether its worth the paper its written on, but if you are stopped it does the trick.
