Ordered new GS and went to see it today and noticed that the spots were fitted but there was NO SWITCH for the spots (as per user manual page 13 view)....Is this supposed to be factory fit or has the dealer just not gotten around to it..(the switch).... Asked the dealer salesman was most vague.

Dealer should fit, it attaches to bottom of left hand mirror bracket with a longer bolt
See switch at bottom of left hand mirror - took me a while to find it on my GS 
Depending on what you feel you need on to be more visible, consider turning off the 'Auto' lights and you can choose dipped or dipped & fogs.
Having the auto lights activated on my 2014 causes issues with the fogs not activating because the system doesn't feel it warrants the extra lights!

Can you have the led on with the spots ? Or is it headlight on with spots?

Nope, you can't have the horseshoe light with the LEDs, just the headlight.

Ok this is strange. A gs went past me on the a38 derby today and it had the led horseshoe on with he spots. Looked brill but got me confused as I didnt think you could do that !

The GSA launch had a bike without the LED headlamp, same as my GS. However the empty hole I have on mine was filled with a 5 LED rectangular running light. Optional extra ????? I was not offered it.

Costs £125 but you then need to add in new switch gear which costs a fortune and no one can tell you whether it can actually be retro fitted
May just buy the lamp unit sometime and sort out my own wiring and switch.
I am really confused with this LED lighting setup and I've confused myself further after reading the manual and setups. My horseshoe is on all of the time regardless of which lights I choose. What's wrong?

On my bike(2014), the horse shoe (DRL) lights are on at all times, no matter what I do. This is accompanied with a green light on the dash. If I press the left button for the headlight to come on, the DRL stays on, and the green indicator on the dash goes out.
The DRL is on all the time. The default setting for the headlight (not the DRL) is auto; the green light means that it is on auto. When you press the button, you are overriding the auto setting of the headlight ie you are manually turning the headlight on, so it is no longer in auto, so the green light on the dash goes out. The DRL is also dimmed slightly when the headlight comes on.
I found on my GS LC that the bike seemed less conspicuous to other road users with just the DRL on during daylight, so I changed the settings so that the headlight is always on; I've done the same with the GSA as well.
You're all saying the same thing. You can't have DRL on, headlight off, oe spots on. Equally, you can't have headlight on, DRL off.
I'm a bit confused about the settings for the lights on my GSA WC . Is it all done on the setup menu ? The spots switch I get but the DLR light /headlight change seems a bit difficult to Master
Yep, switching the headlight auto function on and off is done via the setup menu.
I was about to pay a small fortune for the BMW spot/fog LED auxillary lights but now realise that I couldn't run with them on as well as the U DRL which I would like to do to increase conspicuity. That DRL doesn't look very noticeable to me so will probably buy some third party aux lights for daytime use, just need to figure out mountings and wiring.

I've got the DRL U shaped light as standard on mine, it is very bright and as it's set at the height of a car's rear view mirror, I've found a lot more cars (and lorries) are moving over for me while filtering than before I used the same road (A34 near Oxford) on my old bike.
I fitted some of Les's HID 35W Micro DE lights on the BM light bar.
Had the dip beam bulb fail (on a twin cam) while driving down a windy narrow county road on dartmoor, just as a car was coming, having the fog lights on as well was nice.
So they can be on with the LED DRL.
