I had that a couple of days ago, thought shit how can my battery be flat when I ride it all the time.![]()
Then suddenly remembered someone mentioning the throttle position sensor reset. So turned the ignition on, slowly pulled the throttle back and then slowly released, did it twice, hit the starter and away she went.![]()
Sell it then and quit ya winging![]()

Wanna buy the heap of crap - wanna take it off my hands????
Don't shoot the messenger the bikes a crock of complete shit.

What battery would be recommended as a replacement? Do Odyssey make a battery for the 1200GS? I've had problems with my battery since the bike was about 6 months old (it's now just over 2 years) and I didn't realise you could claim this under warranty![]()
I'll second that - was thinking about an Odyssey. Anyone any info on these???

Would be interested to know if you think the 1200GS is crap just because of the batteries or because you think the whole bike is crap:!
Chris - my thoughts on the 1200GS are : As a riders bike it's the best I have ever owned. BUT top ten my issues with the 1200GS are to do with basic design faults that should gave been sorted before the bike was released for sale. These are (1) Front Forks that work loose in the stanchion holders (see sticky post) (2) Water ingress into the fuel pump because of an appallingly badly designed "water receptacle" over the pump electrics. (3) Inability of the battery to hold a charge leading to non starting of the bike - I am not convinced this is a battery issue as BMW have issued software upgrade for it. (4) Initial design of ABS wire routing - since corrected on recall. (5) Failure record of the final drive that is ridiculously sealed for life. (6) High level 0f gearbox failures. (7) Overly complicated Can Bus wiring system leading to all sorts of issues with electrics plugged in to accessory socket. (8) Poor headlight (9) Top boxes that fail and fall off (10) Silly self cancelling indicators that are useless when leaving a motorway as if you follow the highway code and indicate at the 1st exit chevron the indicators cancel by the time you reach No 3.
This is what I mean about bad design - some things are I accept minor but others are major and have the capacity to stop the bike and leave you stranded. This is a great bike IMO flawed by weight saving accountant inspired dumbing down. All these are issues that should have been spotted and rectified in the development and testing stage. This is the 6th BMW I have owned every other has been a superb motorcycle and I bought the 1200GS without giving a second thought that I would encounter these issues. I took it that bike would be as usual hyper reliable. It saddens me to have to report this I am BMW Boxers to my soul having travelled 100's of thousands of miles on them and I would never have believed that I could ever feel like this about a BMW twin. I need a bike that I can rely on that I know will start in any weather or temperature. The 1200GS is fine when its warm in summer but it ain't going anywhere when it's cold the puny battery just ain't up to cranking a stone cold 1200CC Twin over. My R80RT sits outside in the rain and cold an everyday use winter bike BUT I know this when I go out and take the cover off it, maybe after a fortnight of non use pull the choke and press the starter and it fires up without problem - same scenario 1200GS (2 yrs Old done it from new) CLICK CLICK and it aint going anywhere. All it needs is a proper sized Battery is that too much to ask from a £10,000 motorcycle or are my expectations way too high ???? One thing is for sure I aint investing that money ever again in any BMW until they start designing reliable motorcycles again.
Bought one of these, havn't got round to fitting it yet
