Welcome to the world of BMW motorcycles
About nine busy years ago we made the right decision. Not just because life is becoming more and more a kind of jungle for the specialist, but also because we were driven by a funny feeling that if you have too many options, in the end there's nothing left but wasted time. That's the point when it's good to know what you want and what you don’t want. For our team it was the time to head for a new motorcycle magazine that features nothing more than just one brand: BMW.
It's not the only German motorcycle manufacturer but it's by far the most popular one. In Germany there are about 350.000 Beemers on the road, and most of the people riding are not just motorcyclists, they are true BMW aficionados. We resumed that this enthusiastic crowd would also love a motorcycle magazine featuring nothing else but the fascinating world of BMW motorcycles. That’s why we simply called what it was and still is today: "BMW Motorräder".
In fall 1999 we launched our first issue. Right from the beginning the magazine was a big success in Germany and also in the countries alongside the borderline like Switzerland, Austria or Holland. The new magazine wasn’t on the road for long, when people started asking for an English language edition. It took us some time to get going but now, here we are.
For the English edition the title changed from "BMW Motorräder" to "BMW Motorcycle Magazine". Somehow the easiest part of the job. Publishing a German motorcycle magazine is one thing, not such a big job for us because it’s our everyday business. Translating it into English is something different, it’s a hell of a job. It means far more than only putting German language into English, it’s much more a matter of putting “motorcycling German” into “motorcycling English”. Not enough: Are we talking about British English or American English? Sure you know the little difference and all the details that bring a language to life.
So we had to go back into the jungle and look for the specialist who knows it all, English, German and of course - motorcycles. After all we found partners for this project and after some busy weeks with endless working hours, the button on the printing machine could be pushed.
First class information straight from the home of BMW motorcycles.
At first sight this magazine may appear like a campaign from the marketing department of BMW Motorrad. Far off, this magazine is edited, produced and published on our desks, some distance away from the Munich headquarters of BMW. By the way: If you’d like to drop in and see us while touring in Germany, you'll find our publishing company in the heart of Stuttgart, a lovely city in the south of Germany and also hometown of such well known automotive companies like Mercedes-Benz, Porsche or Bosch.
But we're here for motorcycles. Mainly our company is one of the leading publishers for motorcycle magazines in Germany. I don't mention this to impress you, just to tell you what you should know.
Of course, we’re all motorcycle enthusiasts and we love BMW motorcycles. But it's not our job to play the lovely tunes on sweet violins for the Bavarian bikes. Sometimes we take the sharp knifes to lift a sealing and cover to take a close view on the bikes. Just to look what’s really behind the often celebrated quality of BMW motorbikes.
So this is what you'll get from your "BMW Motorcycle Magazine", first class information straight from the home of BMW motorcycles.
For a start we’d like to offer you "BMW Motorcycle Magazine" twice a year and we are honoured to welcome you as our reader. Take the chance for a subscription and you will find the magazine in your letter-box without any hassle. Remember, BMW Motorcycle Magazine is not available at newsstands.
