BMW Motorrad UK is celebrating 30 years of the iconic GS in 2010 by entering a British team to compete in the International BMW Motorrad GS Trophy. The Trophy provides the ultimate test of man and machine, designed to give amateur off-road riders the opportunity to take on BMW teams from countries around the world in a major and prestigious enduro competition.
The Trophy was first introduced in 2008, giving the worldwide community of GS riders the opportunity to experience a unique off-road adventure: a sporting competition defined by a powerful sense of team spirit.
Teams from around the world, including Italy, Germany, Spain, Japan and the USA, competed in the inaugural event staged in Tunisia and all these countries – and more – will be represented in the 2010 GS Trophy.
The 2010 British ‘GS Challenge’ UK qualifying round will be organised by BMW Off Road Skills. Chief instructor and seven-times Dakar competitor Simon Pavey, and his team of expert instructors, will host the qualifying stage in beautiful Wales over the weekend of 31 July and 01 August 2010. Participants will face a range of endurance and skill tests and will be pushed to their limits in a challenging yet fun environment.
The event will also cater for those GS fans just wanting to enter for a fun ride, with activities for riders of all skill levels both on and off road.
The three top qualifiers from the GS Challenge will be invited to represent the UK in this year’s final round of the International GS Trophy planned to be held in South Africa in October or November 2010 (exact location and date tbc).
The 10-day Trophy final will be a challenging test of physical rigor, technical ability, and riding skills – combined with great camaraderie between participants from around the world, and a rewarding sense of achievement.
