Do they offer much protection (if any) in the event of the worst.

I have a pair

Very comfortable to wear all day. Will keep your feet dry in a shower but not heavy rain.

The new black model that came out this year is comfortable, mine have not leaked once and that included some heavy rain in the Black Forest in June. The multicoloured version that was out last year I can’t speak for ,re waterproofing, but I personally didn’t like the looks of them, hence holding off for the basic black colour that come out late last year. I’d say they are more of a summer boot than an all season one, your pinkies will feel the cold on a chilly day
