Bmw nav 4 low sound

I have a bmw satnav 4,paired with a Schuberth SRC unit via bluetooth
When getting instuctions on wher to go from the gps I can hardly hear what the woman says.
Bmw sat nav set to 100% same on SRC unit.
I took my ear plugs out, still not loud enough,usless for me
compaired with my TomTom which I have to turn down the volume,even with airplugs in use.
Is there any thing that I have missed,or any other way to get the volum up?

I have encountered this same problem with my Zumo 660, except in my case, the volume of the navigation instructions is sufficient, but the volume of music played is unacceptably low.

I also have a BMW System 6 helmet and the BMW Bluetooth system that is designed for this helmet.

I don't know what the fix for the problem is. The problem has not been widely reported in internet fora.

Had this problem with my src, turn the volume up on the helmet while the directions are been announced

standard 660 volume seems to be 75, putting up to 99 makes a noticeable difference when using either the car or bike mount. Admittedly with an Autocom, but I'd have thought the logic would be the same.

I have exactly the same issue with mine. I reported it to Garmin 12 months ago, and have chased them up for a solution numerous times since. It is still an open query as far as I'm concerned.

Got to say, I feel that Garmin support has merely amounted to 'lip service'; such as the usual 'courtesy' responses, together with 'we are still investigating'. The issue is still unresolved, and I've tried various methods / research to deal with low volume on music.

I have just emailed a chaser to Garmin Support in respect of the unresolved issue of 'Low Music Volume'.

Wot he said. Maybe you know but there is an audio mixer which has separate volume levels for sat nav instructions (1) and media played through the MP3 player (2).

The volume on mine was all ok up to a year ago, and I've a feeling that the current issue was caused by one of the earlier Garmin software updates.

Did the TTS Voice Editor make any difference?

John, I'm away from home until 5th May, and do not have access to the GPS until then to try that option. Although, following your earlier reference, I've had a browse through the TTS Voice Editor. It does seem promising, so I do intend to give it a go once I get home.

The SRC system has a separate volume control for each audio source the mp3 player from the zumo and the navigation voice are 2 different audio sources to the SRC system here is the reference from the manual.

Increase the volume of
the current audio source
Tap the Volume Up Button (sets and saves the
volume per source)

You need to set the volume for the navigation voice when it is giving directions once done it will store the new volume level.
I used the repeat instruction on the Zumo to fine tune the SRC volume control.

This took me ages to figure out after turning the navigation voice down by mistake when trying to turn the MP3 volume down.

These settings are independent to the volume mixer on the Zumo.

Do you know if the Schuberth SRC helmet audio system you refer to is the same (electronically & functionally) as the BMW Audio system that is designed to fit the BMW System 6 helmet?

I have the BMW Audio system (see picture of the control device below), and I am now wondering if the advice you offered earlier applies to my system as well.

Hi I don't know just try turning the volume on the helmet Bluetooth control up when the directions are been announced and turn the mp3 music down when the announcement has finished and the music comes back on. If the 2 volumes change independent it is the same.

Update

An update as regards developments on my part.

I chased Garmin again, and finally got a response yesterday. Advised to do a master reset of the Nav4. For those not aware of the process, I have copied below the instructions from Garmin:

Firstly, I would suggest that you perform a Master Reset on the device this will however, remove your favourites if you do not back them up:

You can save your favourites by following these steps before you perform a master reset. If you do not wish to save your favourites, skip to step 9. Mac users can start at step 4.
1. Connect your device to the computer.
2. On your computer, click ?Start?.
3. Click ?computer? or ?my computer?.
4. Open the Garmin drive (Mac Users ? this will be located on the desktop).
5. Open the ?Garmin? folder.
6. Open the GPX folder.
7. Copy and paste all of the contents of this folder to your desktop.
8. Close all folders.
9. Disconnect your device from your computer.
10. Turn the device off.
11. Press and hold the bottom right hand corner of the screen and press the on/off button. (nuvi 3xx devices will need to touch the top right hand corner of the screen) 12. Continue to hold the bottom right hand corner of the screen until you see a message saying ?do you really want to erase all user data?.
13. Remove your thumb from the screen and press yes.
14. The device will now begin the reset.
15. Leave the device in full view of the sky for around 30 minutes.
Now this is complete, to reload your favourites on the device simply copy and paste them from the desktop to the GPX folder on the device.

Result of that process - Music now good through wired earphones / headset - however, NO change through bluetooth.

Then advised to get in touch with BMW for firmware update for helmet Bluetooth. I've done a bit of research and, so far, I've not been able to establish whether firmware upgrades are possible. However, I've awaiting further info from BMW about this (or a Reset option). I'll update when I know more!

John, I have now had the opportunity to install and try out TTS Voice Editor. You are quite correct about the setting being at 75, so I whacked that up to max at 99. Having read further into what the software offered, I wasn't really optimistic about any improvement - but it has actually increased the music volume. Although, not quite to the same level as the Navigation volume, but the improvement is noticeable. Thanks for that.

I still can't work out why the "normal" level is 75, when there's a volume control, but it's a useful extra bit of volume. Glad it worked for you

Reset process for BMW Bluetooth Communication

I've finally got sorted.

I am advised that BMW Bluetooth system does not allow firmware update.

However, it can be reset to original settings by - Press and Hold together the Power button and the Minus button, until a Tone is heard (see earlier in this thread for photo of control panel). That's it!

Reset process clears out all clutter of previous entries, etc.

Can't do with unresolved issues, but I'm now a happy man (with a nice bit of music for company during my solo trip abroad from next week).

Simple answer to your question is 'Yes'. Low music volume problem now resolved.

The steps I outlined previous did resolve the problem. I am pleased to report that I have now got equal (and sufficient) volume levels across both Route direction and Music.

To be quite honest, I am not able to specifically point to which single action (or combination) solved the problem. Although, if the same issue raised itself again, I would first try the reset of the BMW helmet Communication system.

To summarise the order of the steps I have taken along the way:
1) Master reset of the GPS
2) Software update of GPS (at which point I tested a pair of wired earphones in the GPS, and found that the volume levels were now balanced. Whereas, low music volume was still experienced through Bluetooth)
3) Installed TTS Voice Editor on PC and increased volume of Voice file from 75 to 99
4) Reset of BMW Bluetooth Communication system on helmet (then re- paired back with GPS - and ensured that volume / mixer levels are all set at 100)
