Hi Guys,
I've got a BMW Nav 1V. before going on an alpine trip I did a map update to CN Europe NT2017 and this went fine. However when plotting a route to a town for example, the sat nav directs me into & out of lay-bye's. I also have Avoidances turned on and one of those 'avoidances' is unpaved roads yet the device consistently directs me down green lanes as if they were metalled roads. My mate was using an iPhone 6 with a mapping app that was more reliable than my Nav 1V which was the source of some merriment for him! - Constantly!!
Any ideas?

I should imagine you have your Nav IV set to 'Most direct route' or 'Avoid main roads' or some such nonsense.

Mine does the same. It also navigates me off A roads and motorways and then back on again. Avoidances are off

If I pre plan a route I have to painstakingly go through each in of the route to make sure its not doing anything silly.

Set to "Fastest" or "Shortest"?

Yep my Zumo 590 does the same all the lay-bys, maps are CN Europe NT2017.1 if that has any relevance, does the occasional minor road then back onto the same main road. Also been directed off motorways down some random lane then back on to the motorway a few miles further along.

It is set to fastest time I am used to this now so try to ignore it when it happens if it hasn't caught me out.

Its only a minor issue that will probably be rectified on the next software update.

If this is a software issue it doesn't happen on my 390 so either it has different routing software or there is another cause. Sounds bloody annoying though

All of the above happens on my bloody Nav 1V and also set to fastest time. I had real problems with a Zumo 550 a few years back and ended up ditching it and went with a Tom Tom Rider. A simpler sat nav but it never went wrong. I've taken advice on here and done a hard re-set and will see how it goes. If it continues ... I'll go back to a TomTom. I just don't trust the Nav 1V now. It's frustrating not knowing what causes it.

The Nav 1V is basically a 660 so there are an awful lot of units out there and most don't do as you describe. Have you updated the unit software (this is separate from map updates) ?

The 660 is not supported by Garmin anymore so no more software updates. The Nav lV may be the same. Worth trying though.

As a last resort remove the battery for a few hours as well. Try posting your problems on Zumoforum.

No new ones I know but most people never update their unit so there could be some available unless they have binned them all-depends what they mean by stopped supporting

Noorfook,

A. Does the problem occur:

1. With an A to B route you create on your computer and then send to your device?

2. With an A to B route that you create just on your device?

3. Both the above?

B. Does the problem occur every time you use the device or just sometimes?

Actually makes no difference. (It is probably a setting somewhere but I have no idea where.) I just put up with it for now in the vain hope that Garmin will issue an update

Something is very wrong if it does the same in both fastest and shortest settings. Garmin, as it has been said, no longer support the 660 but have you checked that it has the last possible updates? Not the maps but device software. I don't have access to lots of devices like I used to so I can't check but certainly there used to be 660 software updates available. A most such devices work properly there really are only two possible causes.

1, Device problem-again if possible get the latest Garmin software updates for your device. If the software is up to date the device could be faulty.

2, Operator problem- you have somehow accidentally altered a setting and the poor device is being blamed for just doing what it has been told.

If it is the first I doubt we on here can help much-although there might be cheap units for sale. There is a good chance that we can help if it is a settings problem and that a solution might benefit others.
