Hi Chaps & Chapesses,

I have a BMW Navigator mk1 that the screen display has gone faulty.

When you power the unit up you can see that the screens live but all it does is go black and just sits there!

I've sent the unit back to Garmin (as they wouldn't send spares out to a local repairer) and I'm awaiting their advices as to what the fault is and how much it will cost.

Has anyone else had a problem like this and if so what caused the problem and how expensive was the fix? (Please don't tell me you sent it back under waranty, as mines well out of it!)

Regards

I had Garmin do an out of warranty repair - replacing a cracked case - on my GPSmap 295 (Aviation version of SPIII). Their charges were very reasonable and the service was quick as I remember.

My friends SP3 has a defective display, I rang Garmin on his behalf, they quoted just £29 to repair it (Providing that’s all that’s wrong)

All you have to do is sent it to

Garmin Europe Ltd
Unit 5
The Quadrangle
Abbey Park
Romsey
Hampshire
SO51 9AQ

(Phone Tel: 01794 519944)

With a covering letter and a contact phone number, what very nice people!!!

Hi Ebbo,

that's exactly what I did a couple of days ago. So I'll have my fingers crossed and let's hope it's a cheap fix!

Mike & Noel,

thanks for your comments.

Kindest regards

Cheers Reggie, I was surprised it was so little; they can’t be making any money on the repair with a price like that, good luck.

***What amazing service from Garmin***
They have replaced my buddies two year old SPIII with a completely new one at no cost at all!!! :beerjug: :D :coold

How's this for a bloody useless reply!

Dated 25-01-2005

You will have to take the unit back to your BMW dealer. We are not allowed to service these units.

F'in great eh!

So what the heck do I do with it now as it was the dealers that suggested I returned it to Garmin UK?

Any thoughts?

I had problems with Garmin last year. They said that they could not offer tech support for the new bmw navigator (2610) cause bmw modified it ! BMW said to call garmin    Lesson..... just buy the garmin product... not the bmw one.

Hi Luke,

did you get anywhere in the end or did you just bin it?
