So how long before a bike is launched with a full built in display as the central focus in the way that many cars are going - aka BMW iDrive? Even the new Mini will get one in every version when launched in the spring.
I've traded my 09 GSA for the new 2014 GSA TE. Have a bit of a dilema..... Will my existing Nav IV have full functionality with the new iwheel on this new GSA model, or should I upgrade to the new Nav V (£600).
If the Nav IV is compatibly is it really worth £600 for the upgrade....

Yes your Nav IV will integrate with the hardware on the TE. I'd read somewhere that it needed a BMW dealer firmware upgrade to the GPS but I've found that with the latest Garmin firmware installed mine works fine.
The new Nav V offers a bigger, brighter screen and the abilty to display data from the bike's systems on-screen. Only you can decide if those improvements and additional functions are worth the cost to change.
Many thanks for the info Schtum.... Will probably keep my Nav IV.
However, I guess most of the bike's data can still be accessed on the instrument LCD display, and accessed via the iwheel irrespective if you have the Nav IV or V fitted.

There is more to consider. The unit has a faster chip that refreshes much quicker so if your in a city enviroment you have a chance to see where to go. Secondly the route algorithm is better and this is the biggest frustration with the Nav IV.
Is it nice to have or need to have? Well it is a good question.........
ps. I sold my IV for £390 and got a 10% discount on the Nav V so the cost to change was RIDICULOUS but digestable
