I'm taking delivery of a new K1300S tomorrow and want to mount my 2610 salvaged from my soon to be EX 1200GSA on it. I know BMW do a very neat mount for both the Zumo and the Nav III which mounts on the tank panel just fore of the petrol filler. Does anyone know if it is possible to mount my 2610 on this mount and what i'll need to do this. I guess the general question is, is it possible to mount a 2610 onto a Nav III bracket/mount regardless of bike model.

Many thanks

Simon

I'd say yes as all the BM mount is a Garmin one with extra buttons on it. But the audio plug may be a different size.

I may have a "spare" 2610 etc mount at home. I'll try and have a look tonight :)

Thanks John, very much appreciated. a photo of the rear of the NAV III mount would help

What I need to know is if I buy one of these http://www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod2447.html will this bolt onto the BMW bike bracket in place of the Navigator III mount which has the extra buttons. Don't want he extra buttons, just want to utilise the natty looking BMW tank mount with my 2610

Cheers

Russ,

If all goes to plan with the mount for the K1300, then I will have a handlebar/screenn fram RAM mount complete with 2XXX cradle going begging

Simon,

I take it that the mount from GPSW worked on the K13 ?

I also have a 2610 that I will use on mine as I don't think I can get a cradle for the Nuvi 550 to fit the mount and don't want to spend out on Zumo 550 etc.

Does the BMW mount as shown in your pics on the other forum include a cradle or do you just bolt the 2610 one from GPSW to the mount ?

Ta

Edited to add.

Just seen this

It seems to have the 4 holes.I wonder if that would fit the BMW mount so I could use my Nuvi 550 instead ?

Hi,

you need the 2610 cradle from GPSW, this holds the 2610 and then bolts to the 2 peice BMW kit, I reckon you are looking at £90 isj all in, but it does make for a neat job. If you then upgrade to a 550 or the new 660 Zumo, these come with a cradle which will mount to the BMW stuff

Thanks Simon.

Just edited my post to show this

Do you reckon that would fit as it seems to have the 4 holes
?

The 4 hole presentation sort of looks OK, but the angle of the mount looks all to sh*te. not sure what to suggest unless one of your flights lands in York and you can come and check mine out........ which you're welcome to do

Nah sod it.I'll just re-commission the good ole 2610 and do as you have.

Final 2 questions,I promise.

My power lead for 2610 also has the audio plug which I don't use.But I don't see one in your pics.Did you cut it off or is there a lead without it ?

Last one-is the hole under the mount through which the lead pokes big enough to put the entire power lead through back into the battery compartment, out of view when not in use,to save having to use velcro or similar to keep the lead tidy when GPS mount not fitted ?

Sorry to be a pain.

Cheers

Really not a problem with the questions, ask away

Mine also has the audio lead, mine's like a Y peice, the audio lead is tucked back into the battery compartment where I have a lead plugged in which goes back to my Intaride comms system.

The hole that you drill in the battery compartment for the lead to poke through can be as big as you like, mines 20mm so yes, you could hide the lead away when not in use, but you'd have to remove the sat nav base plate each time. Or you could just bring the lead aroung the front of the battery cover and tuck it back under when not in use rather than drillling the cover.

An alternarive would be to buy an extra battery compartment cover and swap them over when you are not touring?

Let me know how you get on

Ta for the advice.

I've ordered that cradle last night.

Does the power cable go straight on the battery-ie hot wired or is it switchable somehow through the ignition ?

Thanks again

I've got mine straight across the battery with an inline fuse. Did consider powering it from the accessory socket, but I wanted to be able to "program" the sat nav with the ignition off. Also, the accessory socket powers down momentaritly when you start the engine, so you would be all set up, satellites aquired and ready to navigate, then you start the bike and the sat nav powers down and goes through the whole start up palaver again. Wouldn't be a problem with a Zumo or similar as they have internal batteries, but as you know, the 2610 doesn't.

Hope that helps, let me know if you want me to send any pic's, happy to pop the battery cover off and show you how moine's wired

That's great.

I'll do the same as that's what I did on GSA.

Good idea about spare battery cover,as I will only use the 2610 on the bike a couple of times a year when off the island on a trip.

I've emailed CW to find out the cost of a spare cover.

Cheers again-much appreciated.

Let me know the cost when they get back to you. Was planning the same, but never got round to it.

If you ever get up north, give me a shout
