Hi GS'ers. I'm getting around to buying a R12GS in the spring after 10ish years out of the saddle... I even got rid of all my riding gear..
I recently took a couple of 1 hour test rides here in The Netherlands (I'm a Canadian expat) of an R1100S and the R1200GS. I felt a bit rusty on the S, but right at home on the GS.. I used to own a 350cc Honda enduro as my last bike. Rode if off road a fair bit, but was no cross expert.
I took a road riders safety course way back when, and feel that I haven't forgotten too much technique. (based on the 2 hours of riding =) I made a point of riding the GS very slow, using the clutch to bring on power and keep my ballance. I didn't put a food down once while turing some tight ones in the parking lot as I finished the ride.
The question is....
Has anyone been on the BMW 6 day Offroad course and tour in Spain (Aras)?
And considering that I don't feel too insecure on the big bikes (based on a tiny amount of experience mind you), would you reccomend that I book a 1200 for it? All this before I take delivery of a new one of course... It sounds like good fun, and a great way to confirm whether I want to become a GSer or not... The worry is that I'll find it all too much and waste time/money when I should maybe have booked out an F, but would really like to collect some experience on a bigger bike.
Thanks,
Ara...
