BMW Original Battery Charger From US

Together with a few other items I also ordered an original BMW battery charger from a website in USA (Sierra BMW). I have noticed the voltage marked on the charger is 110V. I thought these cahrger are universal and can be used internationally with any voltages. I live in Qatar with 220-240v. Can anybody advise if these chargers are in fact unviversal regardless of the markings?. Thanks

I advice you not to use that charger with 220V. Universal voltage devices will be marked with an input of 100-240V and are usually the type of device that travellers bring with them, like chargers for mobile phones and laptops. To be better safe than sorry, get a transformer 230 to 110V and a current(amperes) rating that fit the charger input rating (not output current rating, should be stated on the charger)

I have an HD one, same manufacturer, they DO NOT work on 220v, well they will for a minute or so then you smell something. Go to and electrical store and by a transformer, they are common as many American expats need them for all there kitchen crap.

One thing I've noticed in my travels is that the Uk seems to be one of the few places that trys to help the Merkins by having a 110v output on the shaver sockets. Over there its 110v or nothing

Glad to be of help on a very wet day here in the UK. I'm surprised that the charger is an only 110v as Garmin etc seem to be able to make chargers etc that are worldwide capable.
