BMW put a stop on all GS and GS Adventure sales

I wonder how necessary the sleeve is? I suspect its only there to keep the dissimilar metals at the joint dry. For those who are worried this side of the fix, it might be an option to slide the sleeve down to have the joint visible, preventing the corrosion by regular cleaning and drying which will also make for frequent safety inspection.

It is just a cosmetic thing, it has no other function as far as I can see - it covers the beginnings of rust in the cracked chrome plating caused by the big crimp dents. Always worth pushing them down and drying off underneath after washing the bike, it keeps the rust at bay.

Or apply silicone grease and they'll slide down on their own, apparently! ;)

I use WD40, it's just as effective at reducing the co-efficient of friction to that of wet ice :)

Picked up my new GSA today

'Fix' will be done at the first service

Right

Can someone please clarify what the dealer will do , or rather what have BMW Motorrad told them to do. My dealer said they are just checking them for gaps in the joint and any out of spec will be fixed. If no gap , you are good to go!
So they are only fixing this issue if the forks are starting to fail ? Not happy with that ! As I'm assuming that this issue can develop at any time in the future, possibly on a trip, what then ? But from this thread some say that the dealer is fixing all bikes, Alan Jefferies was mentioned as doing so, others like Gabriel are being modified before collection. So What are BMW Officially doing ? I would like to challenge my dealer to carry out the modification if that is what should be done. Can anyone please shed any official light on this issue.

Cheers

As the post before yours illustrates, a fix is being applied to all bikes produced between the stated dates, even brand new ones, even if no gap has appeared. In addition, as I understand it, on bikes where a gap has appeared the fork tubes will be replaced and the fix applied to the new tubes.

That's really helpful, and informative :blast

Mine goes in on Saturday for its first proper service, so will see what the dealer say then...

Just booked mine in for 6k service and the dealer said there will be a recall but they will do mine when it's in for the service.

I've just taken my GSA (6 months old) to Bowkers Motorrad before heading down to Portugal and biker got inspected following a memo from BMW. However there was no mention of a recall or similar, forks were ok and I got a green light to travel. I'm unaware if there is any further recall and replacements or repairs to be done.

Just spoken to my dealer in Edinburgh. Mine was just in for its 600mile service today and they have inspected the forks, and as expected they are fine at only just 1 month old, but they said there will be collars fitted once they actually get them. There are no parts available at the moment and I will get a letter from BMW to book it in once the parts are dispatched.
