Any advice on buying a 2005 R 1200gs please?

It's a low mileage-18000 and a great looking/condition example.

Will be my 1st 1200GS, used to ride F650gs and am now grown up a bit and want a good commuter.

What should I look for or look out for with this particular model and at £5k-ish is it a good deal or not?

Thanks in advance...

Ged.

Buy it you won't regret it, but there are much cheaper 'commuter' bikes if that's all you want.

I really enjoyed the F650gs and thought this was an obvious choice. I want comfort and enjoyment thrown in for good measure. I'll be doing around 350 miles per week, early morning late evening riding.

Cheers,

Ged.

You should also consider the F800gs twin very economical for the commute up to 70 mpg and almost as sprightly as the 1200 without the added lard and width of 1200 ...... Sure that will upset a few but its true.

I have a 2006 GSA its a fantastic bike I bought it 2011 done 30,000 miles on it since i bought it.
Mine's had a clutch slave cylinder fail, fuel pump controller fail both fixed under warranty, rear brake disk carrier replaced
and fuel pump replaced both on BMW recall. other than that no issues.

Its extremely reliable starts every time.

Check that the one your considering has had the recalls done if not BMW will replace FOC.
check the final drive for oil leaks check for any slight play on the rear wheel, if there is you will have final drive issues, look at the service history has oil been changed regularly?

If your mechanically minded these bikes are relly easy to service and work on so get yourself a manual save yourself some cash on servicing.

I seriously doubt you will regret buying it.
