R1200r

I have one for sale guys if anyone is interested? Have owned it for 3 years. 57 Fantastic bike, nimble and great tourer.
 
I wanted an R1200R in late 2006 but couldn't get one, tried a GS and absolutely loved it, had it ever since, never been back to the dealers, modified and serviced by me, no fancy electronics, no ABS love it to bits! The R1200R has a lot going for it but for me the GS is just a little bit better!

sold mine few months back , why don't know .
wanted a change .
so now looking for another .. gs or r1200r.
think the road bike will be the one .
maybe a twin cam one .

R1200R

I've owned an 1100 gs an (1150r,which I didn't like) two gs1200 and now an R1200R, and think the R1200r the best, as being a bit of a short arse at 5ft 8 it's lower to the ground and therefore easier to turn at walking speeds and balance when a pillion is mounting. It feels quite a bit faster, has more appropriate wheels size for road handling and the wider rubber gives a greater contact patch.I also find it much easier to lift on to the centre stand. Definately a much over looked and brilliant machine.
 
I'm in the process of trading up from a 2007 r1200r to a new GS LC.

Only reason is I want a bit more wind protection, and couldn't bear to spoil the nice clean r1200r with the horrible big screens on the market.

Great bike, lighter than the GS of the same year, more powerful, longer gearing on the motorway and no servo abs brakes.
I think it's one of the best handling road bikes out there - the turn in is pin sharp. Power is fab ( it's got the same engine as the RT - 110 bhp?)
And looks really smart - nothing fancy - just down to business..

A real blast. But alas no decent screen.

Love mine - would keep it if finances / space / other half allowed...

P.s. Mines a minter and its for sale in the ads...
 
I took a 1200R out for a test ride today after getting curious as I do think that my GSA is a bit of a heffalumph and every bugger and their brother has a GS/A these days.

I was very impressed by it. It handles better than the GSA, a benefit of the diet I presume. The diet also helped with the pickup as well. Yes very impressed.

Two things let it down for me, lack of wind protection which could be resolved with a bigger screen and the leg position compared to the GSA. Being a 6' lardy tosser, it wasn't for me.

But I agree, it's a brilliant bike. There are a lot of GS riders out there, especially the shorter ones who would get on better with the R as you get a Boxer twin that is probably a better road bike without standing on tiptoes.

I know it goes against the "roadster" style but if BMW made a half faired version, I could see that selling well. But current fashion dictates that "adventure" bikes rule at the moment so it's unlikely to happen.
 
It is GS with a different top, so it is just as good, but without the street presence of GS, traffic notices you on a GS, your just another bike on the R. which from a safety perspective, well less say you're less obvious.

After numerous road tests, BMW, Triumph, Kawasaki, Harley

Our opinion, after numerous road tests..
Scene.. A friend who's about to pass her test & wanted a bike for the end of the summer.. Being a bit unstable on 2 wheels, wanted something safe & retro was the style in demand..

Triumph, tried the scrambler, engine jerky & oh the exhaust, so much heat.. Stable up to approx 70mph..

Triumph Bonneville T100, smooth engine, nice ride, but only stable at speed till u hit 80 (indicated) mph, then I was looking for somewhere to crash land.

Harley Sportster Iron 883, well, great looker, runs out of puff at top end quickly, so touring speeds not an issue, not as stable at 70mph as I would have liked, but for filtering & town work, VERY fun bike.. Brought a grin to my face, but NOT for a newbie..

Kawasaki, W800, style, smooth engine & clutch etc, stable at speed or in town, great all rounder, but 'it's a Kawasaki'

BMW R1200r, everything we were looking for, compared to the other bike, full of safety stuff, abs, gear indicator, steering damper, really we'll planted on the Tarmac, engine perfect in traffic, but a rocket with loads of torque when opened up. Ok, more ££ but loads more for your money. Also this one I took on an old airfield & nipped it up to 115mph (indicated) not a hint of wobble..

In my opinion a very under rated bike, if I wasn't looking for a bike for someone else I would never have got on one, my error.. Try one, u may be pleasantly surprised..

Not quite, front end and frame are very different.

Unlike the older R's the r1200r was designed from the ground up. It's quite a beast - a bit of a nutters tool...
 
It's a great bike.

The only reason I sold mine was that I wanted more wind protection, and I couldn't bear to put a carbuncle of an aftermarket screen on it.

If you are happy with a naked bike, I can't think of any better...

Mine didn't look too bad (see pic) compared to some that I've seen. Cleaned it up and fitted the Abdeckring from the S1000RR.
