OK looking for a bit of help. My 07 RT1200 has a little annoying fault with the gear indicator sensor. Sometimes it plays up and does not show the 1st 2nd 3rd and neutral gear on the display and some times it does:blast

Any way as I am one of those that believes if it's not working, even thought it is not affecting the actual mechanical side of things, it still needs to be fixed. So quick chat to local BMW dealer and they stated
1. We could plug it in to the diagnostic machine and try and reteach the sensor to recognise which gear the bike is in. Might fix the problem cost minimal as it is a quick job maybe half hour labour or
2. Buy new sensor £130 and fit myself. Apparently not a very complex job as it's plug and play. Only thing is you need small hands apparently as its located in a tight area:blast

So any one have experience with this problem and have any advice. I have looked in the Haynes manual and can't see any diagrams or details on this particular job

Thanks in advance:beerjug::beerjug:

Is a gear indicator worth potentially upwards of £130 on an 07 bike?

Mine is an 07 and I wouldn't spend that amount on it for a gear indicator.

OCD I'm afraid and I allways keep my bikes immaculate so yes I would not hesitate to spend the money

Thanks Wobble those Two links are a help. Will try the cleaning of the contacts and see what happens. If it still requires a possible replacement then I would probably go for new as a salvage item could work out a false economy if it fails soon after installing. Cheers
