BMW R1250GS ADV DWA module

Hi all,

I have got an accident with my R1250GS adventure 2020 and I am looking to remove the DWA module (anti-thef alarm system) in order to install it on my new GS 2023.
Could someone explain me where it is located? Is it maybe under the back seat? What do I need to remove in so that I can take it out? Do I need any particular Tool?
Finally, can I retrofit that module on the new bike myself? Does it need to be programmed?

I know it is doable, there are other threads where people explain the retrofitting.
I need to know first where exactly to find the module, how to access it, and if I can retrofit it on the new bike without any other component needed (is the socket already available on the new bike?).

Remember you are asking people on a public forum to disclose security information about the Bikes they ride. There's probably a reason why BMW don't make this information public.

If you have the Bike already - why not strip it down and find out?

It’s no secret where BMW fit the alarm, it’s under the bikes rear cowl, under the luggage rack. If you set it off, you can hear where it is. As of the last update, a Hex GS 911 can activate it on the bike.

Maybe because my bike is half destroyed as set on fire and it is sitting in a parking area I need to go there and take the unit, but I'd like to know where to find it first. As I am not an expert and I can't spend 10 hours there.

Thank you very much for your help. I've seen old threads, but only for older GS versions. I needed confirm.
Unfortunately I can't hear the sound, as I already said the bike went on fire after the incident and the electric system on the front of the bike is gone. Battery was removed to prevent explosion.

Last question, do you know if the socket to retrofit the DWA is present also in bikes that don't fit the DWA when manufactured?

This is the parts list for the R1250GSA, which shows the alarm unit. The other unit in the pic is for the tyre pressure monitoring system, so I would say you just need the alarm unit. The bike should be prewired for it, so when you take it off, take a note (pic) of the loom connectors and check to see if it has a fly or bridging lead attached.

If fitted, the rear rack will need to be removed, as well as the plastic under seat cowling. For this, you will need a decent torx bit set, specifically a size T40, and if it has the GSA rack, it will need to be a long reach T40 to get too two of the fixings. As some of the fixings can be really tight if they have never been removed, they need to be good quality and at least 3/8 drive.

Looking at my repair manual dvd, to access the alarm unit to change the battery, undo two bolts from underneath the rear mudguard. The number plate bracket and plate holding the alarm unit will then hinge down and you can remove it from that position.
The unit will need coding to the new bike.

I got the unit removed finally! I took the RDC module too. I do not know how to attach the picture on the reply.
Now the only question is: is the bike that I am buying prewired for it?
I guess I will have to contact the dealer for that. And yes, I will let them do the fitting. Easier. And at least I have saved 400e for the module itself.

They are talking bollox.Its not that sophisticated. Its an accessory. Its not even Thatcham approved.
Fit it and they can then programme it to work with the bike.

that wont matter, its the other bike needs to be coded to show the alarm has been removed.
The alarms themselves are just 'dummy' units that make the noise.

The coding is in the bike. As far as I know.
