I currently own and ride daily my 07 DR650SE, but I am considering buying the R1200GS if BMW does not come out with a R1300GS or 1250cc soon. Do you think I should wait for this new model to be produced or just buy now? BMW may not change the style for a long time? Have you heard anything about this possible development?

I do not see any reference to a 1300GS on the link provided, so what was the point of the link?

Better link...

Better link for reference BMWR1300GS I asked the same question there but looking for more input.

Its about time isn't... just look back at the history.

1100.. takes a few years to get right and as soon as it IS right they replace it with the 1150.

the 1150... starts off ok. but then bmw think its good but lets make it more complicated shall we.

then the 1200... numerous faults from the off. (all detailed in gory and drearily repetitive detail on this site) so they eventually revise it somewhat to cure the problems that so many owners have had.

so lets assume the 1200 is now fixed.

time for a new model.

Cunning lot at BMW....

if its the latest, brightest, spangly est, shineyest, absolutely newest bike you can pose on, then wait,
if you just want to ride a good honest bike, and do what we do best, then get one now, ride its rims off, repair it until its beyond repair, then buy another.

if that isnt to your taste, honda or harley perhaps?

welcome aboard anyway:)

I would not be waiting for something that may or may not come along it probley will sooner or later but the 1200gs/a will be still a good bike and will be worth a lot at trade in time just like the 1150 is now and even the 1100 and 1000 JJH

1300GS, really????

I may be wrong, and if I am someone will no doubt take great pleasure in telling me, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that due to Emissions legislation the Boxer engine has gone as far as it can. Bloody bastard Eurocrats fcuking it up for all of us, grrrr, anyway let me know if im wrong,as I'd LOVE to see a 1300 GS......

The emissions regulations would be a reason to move to 1300 and to offset the restriction of the tightening emissions requirements. (euro 4 2012 , euro 5 2015)

What'll kill the boxer off tho is probably pass by noise , as those sticky out pots, semi off road tyres and flat tone from exhaust is , in total, quite a noisy affair.

Noisy - don't think so

I've listened to other peoples' GSs going past and they strike me as really quite quiet by bike standards. Regulations are far more likely to kill off those noisy Harley Wotsits.

They seem to be testing the water with the gs800 adventure,I guess the 1300 would be like the bigger version.
So if you want the last in the line of the iconic boxer then buy now,or wait until later in the year when they bring out the last biggest, bestest, all singing all dancing like you wanted it all along factory special GSA

The new model should be a 'basic' version. The 1200 engine. sub frames. running gear etc. but minus all the completely unnecessary electronic gizmo's and gadgetry flim flam.

All thats right with the 1200 coupled with all thats sensible on the 11xx variants.

Can't see it happening any time soon though.

Isn't called an HP2 Enduro?

As they get bigger the quality seems to go down, dont wait too long or you will be getting the electric one :augie

Really cant see it getting any bigger. As others have said Euro rules will kill this engine off pretty soon. Any replacement will probably have to be water cooled and as such would be so much more powerful it should only need to be 1000cc or so. I think its most likely it'll be a bigger version of the F800 as well, much cheaper to make.

Are you hoping for a better looking GS? You'll wait forever for that, eachone so far is worse than the earlier model it replaces, which is also true of most Beemers these days(K12/13S excluded)
If you can live with the 1200's look buy it, it will be so much better than the Vstrom. If not buy a 1000 vstrom, it'll be the same as you have but so much better:)

I would buy a 1200 now, in fact I just have! I wouldnt wait for a new model to come out with possibly a load more new faults that it will take BUMW a year to sort out and recall them all back! And I'm sure they will take the opportunity to whack another load on the price?
