Bmw radiator guards

My dealer, Lind Welwyn Garden City, reckons that they only fit the Rally bike, and certainly wont fit my new 2017 GSA.

He said that BMW had previously not supported rad guards for the LC models but now were unable to object to people fitting non standard guards.

I'm confused. Lind sold me a set for my EU4 GSA and they're on the way to me.

The (sometimes very large) radiator guards on most cars are plastic. They don't seem to degrade or become holed with piss boiling frequency.

Looking at the web site under the OEM part numbers and comparing them to what you get from NN, it looks as though this is for the GS range only and not the GSA. :anger

Last year I had a new GS which I fitted rad guards to from NN. I now have a new GSA I took the rad guards off the GS and fitted them onto the GSA. They fit exactly the same on both bikes.

Apparently, these plastic guards will fit the 17 R1200GS only. The GSA doesn't have the correct holes and the Rally model already has rad gaurds

I was told by my dealer that these would fit a EU4 GSA but I can confirm having tried to fit them that they don't fit which the dealer has now conceded. They are specifically for a 2017 GS (i.e. The 'facelift' model)

I have rad guards them fitted to my gs exclusive, they are listed in the 2017 gs brochure, yes they are plastic and yes they cost around £23.

BMW rad guards 2017 fitted to 16 model GS

Hi excuse me new here.
I have just finished putting 2017 BMW radiator guards to my 2016 GS.
They need to be trimmed in places and the plastic radiators shroud trimmed back 3mm in one side.
Easy to see when you try and fit them.

Yup I've done the same to my 66 plate GS. They needed a bit of trimming to the plastic air supply duct but once done they are a snug fit. The only thing I found was that the guards were touching the fins on the radiator so I trimmed a bit of car door seal I had to 'lift' the guards away from the fins. I was concerned that the rubber might melt where it was on the radiator metal frame but it hasn't. Having just returned from touring France where the fan came on to cool the engine a fair bit when in towns etc I can say that it's all good. Normal riding the engine temp stayed at 84 degrees even when the ambient temp was 30+.

I bought myself a pair of Chinese aluminium powder coated ones off eBay for £35. They fitted perfectly, on my 2016/17 GSA, stand off from the radiator fit in the right places and look reasonably good. They are badged as Touratech but are clearly not and when fitted the emblem isn't visible. Since buying these I've seen the same slightly cheaper without the logo, as I didn't really want the logo.

Got some genuine BMW plastic ones on my 2017 exclusive £28.50 on Ebay from Rainbow motorcycles. Fitted in 20 mins no fettling needed.

Just fitted a pair to my 2017 GS, good value at £20 +vat, even the lady on the spares desk was surprised how cheap they were. Fitted in 20min, however I was surprised how damaged the radiator fins were, after less than 2000 miles a lot were bent, they are really soft, I straightened them carefully before fitting the guards. Well worth the money, they should be on as standard, just some penny pinching by a German accountant stopped that.

+1 got the same fitting perfect on same bike, they are plastic and OK I suppose for a little gravel type roads, but I would not like to get a bigger stone come flying at them, if you are going really offroad get Metal.

Having part ex'd my 2011 R1200GS triple black for a new R1200GS TE, With luggage, TFT, etc. and deciding to put radiator guards on it, found today that Chester Motorrad have some sets in stock, if anyone is after some, they ordered a few sets in advance of potential requests. Harry is the man to speak to in Service/parts.
