I've done a search but can't find my answears. (don't want to upset the mods now do we ;) )

What are the BMW Rally II trousers like. I know about the jackets, I know they look corporate, I know about the residual LWR effect,

....But what I need to know is, are they hard wearing, does your bum slide on the saddle, whats the protection like etc etc

If they are anything like the Ralye I trousers then brilliant.

Bought mine (with Ewan McGregor related reservations) in the Spring prior to riding down to Turkey and lived in them for three weeks, I now never wear my leathers I like them so much.

I've had a few low speed spills trail riding in them and they stood up very well (and kept me bruise free). I don't suppose they will ever offer the same level of protection as leathers but I do feel safe/protected wearing them - hopefully I'll never put them to the test.

They grip the seat fine are 100% water proof and very comfy, with the liner taken out and vents open, in hot weather. I've yet to wear them through a winter so am not sure how warm they will be but, suspect they are more of a '3 season' piece of kit.

Down sides? None really - you have to pay extra for the 'hip' body armour which I feel is BWM taking the p1ss. On such an expensive pice of kit they should come with it.
Oh and they are filthy; despite washing and re-proofing they don't come up very clean but I can't say that's an issue for me.

In a nutshell, when they eventually fall apart I'll be after another pair :thumb

I love mine. Suitably tailored for a good fit they feel relatively stylish yet functional.

Good features:

Stretchy material at the rear of the calf for an in or out the boot fit
Zips and vents
Suede on inner knee for grip and wear
Optional liner bit (mines always in)
Good knee protection
Seem to wear well
Good articulation of fabric

Bad points:

Adjusters at waist poke out and catch on your fleece or whatever if they are pulled in beyond about a third (you could cut the excess off though)
The knee protectors are quite bulky and you need to make sure they sit OK on your knees (they are adjustable, but check anyway). They might cause some boot/trouser interface probes if you like your trews in your boots and your boots are quite tall.
The pockets are pretty fiddle and not waterproof
They can't take a belt so there might be a 'ride down' issue if your have a wider waist than pelvis.

With regard to grip on the seat they are as good as any other Cordura strides. I don't slip much on my Corbin, but then it has a basket weave. I have some old HG trews and they are perhaps a bit stickier, but that's probably the dirt.

They are also not the warmest of legwear and on really cold days it can get a bit chilly on the knees. I don't normally suffer cold in the leg dept. so I reckon this is dur to the lightweight material and the lack of padding. The HG trews are much warmer.

I would definitely buy the Rallye trews again, but wouldn't be so desperate as to not consider anything else. I might also want a pair of padded waterproof trews for filthy cold weather.

They are pretty good in all the respects you mention. There's no hip armour as standard but the additional four-part Hip-protect stuff from BMW fits.

What I didn't like about them is the perennial problem of the Gore-Tex liner.

Another serious flaw IMO is that the waist adjustment is by two silly little plastic slides. No ability for a belt and without the trousers zipped to the jacket there's a continued need to keep hitching them up.

I tried braces but that meant to use the half-zip (no full zip) any extra thermal layers have to be tucked into the trousers.

If you have access to a decent seamstress I'd get some broad belt-loops added.

The hip armour came as standard in my Rallye II Pro trousers :nenau

Doesn't seem to have made any difference :D

The one thing that they beat my current Rukka trousers for was the suede inners on the knees. That proved invaluable when gripping the tank stood-up, or sat down on occasions for that matter.

The Rukka trews are A1* but lack the suede....

I'd be hard pressed to pay anywhere near RRP for them. Just don't see they are worth the inflated price tag however good they are. They aren't that much better than others out there.
