Anyone had their bike fixed under the recall notice for 1200R fuel pump (or thereabouts) leak.

If so what were the symptoms they noticed or suffered from their bike.

My bike had major leak from fuel pump and/or vicinity and was recovered to a dealer.

Told today that funnily enough the leak I've got IS NOT COVERED by the recall notice and that in fact they'd only ever seen 2 or 3 of the bikes brought in to them actually suffering from what the recall notice is all about!

Am I missing something here??

I've had the recall, but not yet been into the dealers.
No whiff of unleaded or owt.

Same here, have the letter but haven't been in yet. Waiting on them getting the s1000xr in so I can mooch a shot ;-)

Had the letter and took it for the check up.
Guess what, it needed a new fuel pump.
Guess what they did not have one in stock. !!!!!!!

Any symptoms weavo? Did you see or smell petrol at any time. If so where was the leak showing it self.
Has the repair been done yet?
Thanks for replying.

I went back a few weeks latter and they fitted a new pump.
Never noticed a leak, no smell of petrol.

Had mine done last September by Rainbow, no symptoms but they had to order a new pump (took 3 weeks!) and fit it so 2 trips to Rotherham, interesting, haven't been in a dealership for 8 years, and shan't be going again (well you don't with Airheads, they don't know what they are!).

My dealer phoned me during the winter to ask if I'd like them to service the bike before the big rush in Spring...... Right!

No thanks, my bike is now out of warranty and I've got a new Haynes manual.... but I will still buy my parts off you.

Ok, thanks, bye bye....... hold on I said..... I hear there's a recall on fuel pump for my bike.

Yeah, that's right, we were gonna let you know some time, sure wait till Spring and drop in in then (when they are flat out!)

Took mine in too. Nothing wrong found on my 05 1200.

Apparently one of the issues is with the metal rings that attach the various parts to the tank. They are looking for metal fatigue and signs of leakage.

Was contacted by the dealer today.

It seems the leak has been fixed and they have done the recall work which surprise surprise is not in the same area!! NOW FANCY THAT. HOW CONVENIENT FOR THEM - YEAH RAF IT IS.

Ive still to pay for the labour though (£80 + VAT per hour) even though the work is covered by a recall notice.

Why do i feel that i am being ripped off by my dealer??

You do not pay for any work done relating to the original BMW notice to replace or reinforce the fuel pump flange or transfer pump flange.
I imagine your bill is for work done to repair your other fuel leak?

My 2010 GSA had a problem with occasional fuel smells. Parked in the garage overnight - there would deffo be a whiff of petrol coming from under the tank out through the headstock area the following morning. Happened only 3 or 4 times, but noticeable and perplexing. I always thought 'must be me' - overfill/filler overflow combo. Two services, and a lot of rootling around under the tank found nothing obvious. I got the recall letter a few months ago and took it into Vines in Guildford. They did a great job - replaced a plastic thing with a metal one (not exactly sure what, but I suspect in the fuel feed lines?) and did whatever the recall told them to do. Problem fixed. No charge. While they were at it, spotted a rather nasty looking air filter, so changed it. Only charged me the part (since it was already apart for the recall, no fitting costs). Good service from them.

The air intake tube (on the GSA) has to come off to get the fuel tank off the bike so fitting a new air filter adds no time to the job other than getting the new filter from the stores.

So what is the recall specifically for??

Ive just got my bike back from Edinburgh/Dalkeith dealer and they pointed to a small piece of hose/tube about 4 cm long with two metal clips at either end at the top end (visible part) of the fuel pump!! i was told that this was the recall requirement and that they had replaced it to comply with the recall notice.

Meanwhile they 'repaired' the large circular seal on my pump to fix my fuel leak - that they say WASN'T covered by the recall.

Im confused as there are one or three of us saying that the seal(s) was what they had done under the recall notice.

It begs the question: have I just paid my dealer a labour charge (£80 +VAT per hour) for doing something that they are also getting back from BMW?? Isn't that fraud??

Still I was offered a free bacon roll as I called out first thing on a Saturday morning - I can tell you what i would like to do with the friggin bacon roll!!

Anyone got a good contact for BMW UK??

Jim

This is the fuel pump return side on mine that is due to be changed.
Bellow the hex it is a tapered thread that screws into the boss on the pump flange.
It is this boss that can develop cracks and leak.
What they do is measure the outside diameter of the boss and if it is under a certain size they fit a strengthening retaining collar to prevent cracking.
If the boss measurement is too great for a collar to be fitted they replace the whole flange.
I have the ring fitted to the pump side flange but they are going to change the transfer pump side flange completely.

Found a picture of a cracked one,

On a GSA, is this on the left side of the tank as you sit on it? I'm assuming that's the pump side. There is another one on the right side which I guess is some kind of fuel return system, do they both need retaining rings or is it just the left side?
