BMW Recall Notice and Fuel Leak

As a new owner of a 12 plate GSA - how does one go about getting info on recalls?
last bike I got second hand (Pan European) there was a tear off bit in the owners book to forward to the manufracture. Nothing in the book for the GSA.
Cheers

For safety suff like this they use the DVLA details to contact everyone.

If in doubt you could contact you local BMW dealer and tell them your bike's reg number so they can computer check if it needs any recall work.

Just booked mine in. Can't look at for just over a month as busy. Even then they will only look at it between services. I asked if the metal rings go on both sides, he just said they take a measurement and if its within a specified amount they do nothing, if its outside this amount they fit the ring, if the flange is cracked they replace the pump. Just have to wait and see.

Rings

The cracks if they exceed parameters pump assy changed if they do not fit the correct ring
There are 2 sizes of ring , the gauge is 2 sizes to see which one could/should be fitted.(if the larger of the 2 on the gauge does not go around boss it can be replaced , if I remember correctly).
Basically it is a support ring to stopped any further cracking.
Looking at the picture of the cracked one providing it is a fit on either of the 2 on the gauge a collar would be fitted.
The tool from Bm to fit these is a nice bit of kit.

What amused me was the attitude of the service guy at BMW Park Lane. He didn't get it why BMW were bothering recalling the older bikes - mine's an 07 plate.

15 minute job when checks were done as part of the service last June, bmw have been aware of it for over 12 months and had been doing it on all bikes still being serviced by authorised dealers.
Will be a mop up operation for bikes that are now outside both warranty and the umberella of bmw dealer servicing

So what is the recall specifically for??

Ive just got my bike back from Edinburgh/Dalkeith dealer and they pointed to a small piece of hose/tube about 4 cm long with two metal clips at either end at the top end (visible part) of the fuel pump!! i was told that this was the recall requirement and that they had replaced it to comply with the recall notice.

Meanwhile they 'repaired' the large circular seal on my pump to fix my fuel leak - that they say WASN'T covered by the recall.

Im confused as there are one or three of us saying that the seal(s) was what they had done under the recall notice.

It begs the question: have I just paid my dealer a labour charge (£80 +VAT per hour) for doing something that they are also getting back from BMW?? Isn't that fraud??

Still I was offered a free bacon roll as I called out first thing on a Saturday morning - I can tell you what i would like to do with the friggin bacon roll!!

Anyone got a good contact for BMW UK??

Jim
I was in their 8.30 Saturday morning picking up a final drive oil filler plug.
Most likely saw you if you were their at that time....

I got the letter too, it says bring it in at your convenience, I called and waited weeks to get booked in, mine had the problem but they do not hold the spares so have to order them in. Weeks later they call me and say the spares are in can I get it booked in to fit it. So asks to have it done the next week only to be told, they can't fit the part if the bike was not checked for the fault first, so I explain that it was checked two months ago and did haved the fault but could not be repaired as you do not hold the spares which you have now told me you have:blast The answer to this was, yes but as it was more than a month ago it has to be inspected again to see if it has the fault before we can authorise a repair:confused:maybe I'm wrong and BMWs have the technology to self heal, but what's the betting I turn up next week only to be told, it needs the part but we have to order it in and then I wait a month to be told they can't fit it as it needs to be inspected for the fault first and so we start the whole circle again:blast

Hope you all have better luck than me if you need the part replaced.

Took mine into Cotswold, & was told parts needed, & were in stock. "Can you wait or do you want a loaner, & bring it back tomorrow?" Had a nice ride on an LC 1200RT.

Hi, just bought a 2007 GS and was wondering how will I be able to check if the recall has been done to my bike, is it just a visit to the dealer? With my Harley I can just tap my vin into one of their web pages and I can see if there's any recalls outstanding on that vin?

Cheers Ady

Just bought my bike, phoned dealer in Dundee to book it in for a service and was told about the outstanding warranty work re the fuel pump when I gave my registration. Got the bike back on Saturday. Zero cost, no hassle. They dealer will check if it needs done rather than just doing it (or thats what was said to me), my tubes were swollen or something so they just did it there and then.

Inverness: left it in this morning to have it done along with a 24k service, they called me an hour later to ask if I realised how expensive it would be for the service as it would need the belt changed, valves done (TC) and FD oil changed on top of the standard bits they do, also that my fuel gauge is knacked they have a spare but no seal, £94 + vat + labour £240 just to fix the fuel gauge alone. Was told they will do me a good deal due to the hassle over the recall saga, so will help out with the total cost, in the meantime they have left me with a GS WC until they have all the bits, watch this space!
