BMW Recovery Service - Piss Poor

Was the bike recovered under BuMW's Insured Warranty Policy? If so, let's see what the policy says:

....but if the problem cannot be resolved at the roadside, we will pay the costs of taking your motorcycle to the nearest authorised BuMW dealer....

Don't see much in there about returning the bike. However, it goes on....

BuMW Insured Emergency Service

.....blah, blah....you will only be covered in this section....if you have paid the additional premium.....blah, blah....including motorcycle hire, motorcycle recovery and redelivery.....

....but it goes on....

....blah, blah.... other (than from) your local authorised dealer.....

So:

(a) Did you pay the additional premium?

If no, do not pass go.

(b) If yes, was the motorcycle taken to your local dealer for the work?

If yes, do not pass go.

PS The bracketed words (than from) were mine to save the trouble of typing it all out. It gives the gist of what it says, I hope.

err..no. Bike is < 2yrs old so under Manufacturer warranty.

Not two years old !!!

I cannot imagine that BMW will not arrange for the return of your bike -either by delivering it to you or paying your bus, train or taxi fare to collect it. Just ask them nicely and they cannot say no. No amount of small print absolves them from this responsibility.

As the extended warranty broadly copies the main manufactures warranty, I suspect it's in the small print on your document.

Not many warranties supply replacement vehicles or return and I would think your only way is to ask BuMW under goodwill.

Unfortunately Brian, unless it specifically says they will return it, they can easily say no and they are absolved of responsibility.

The dreaded small print is a nightmare and who really reads it:nenau

Some of you guys are missing the point. Bike breaks. Is covered by std manufacturer BMW warranty. Bike collected. Bike fixed. But its not delivered back.

Warranty leaves me out of pocket and time.

What bothers me is the time lost in collecting it. It would take 90 mins to go get it and ride home. Round trip all in.

In an evening after work? Nope. Need to chillax and get back to takeover from the missus to look after the baby. On a weekend? Fek that.

Frankly its an insult to do everything except deliver the bike back to your home address or where it was collected from.

Free time is so fekkin valuable !

So I paid £40 to save 90 mins - I figure my free time is worth more than £26.67 an hour.

But will knock off a letter to BMW @ work and have a pop (in someone elses time, whilst travelling). Cheeky fekkers aren't getting away with it, particularly as I didn't take up the hire car option.

You still haven't said what it says in the warranty regarding redelivery:nenau. It may be morally wrong but if they have no legal obligation to do it, why would they?

I've dealt with truck warranties over the years and not one of them, including new manufacturers warranties, give a replacement vehicle or re delivery. Had a few arguments over it but it's all in the paperwork.

BMW (mondial) recovery service are incredible - best cover I have ever had... saving me many times...

They have shipped my bike from breakdown, right across the uk either to my local dealership, to the nearest dealership to my travel destination (whilst moving house) they have recovered my bike from frozen mountain sides and delivered me at my destination, then collected the bike again to recover it to a further dealership closer to my destination and re-delivered to my home address... I have had loan bikes and offer of loan cars each time my bike has been recovered...I have also been supplied with overnight accommodation (BM hospitality suite) when broken down and in the process of dealership repair... well worth paying the membership fee for...

If you speak to BM recovery and explain what you need from the recovery you will more than often get the service you need from them...

Kin ell ........ I suppose your experience is the complete the opposite of the OP's here however if my bike had broken down as many times as yours appears to have done then I think I'd be shoving it right back up BMW's arse :augie

The sale of goods act covers motorcycles, as such within the first six months if it goes wrong you are entitled to a new one, just as you would be with a toaster.

After six months you have to give the dealer the opportunity to repair, before that you can insist on replacement or refund.

So if you ever buy a real lemon and want rid of it make sure you engage a decent solicitor before 6 months is up.

Echo that, over two separate incidents Mondial have provided me with:
- recovery to UK from Spain for the bike, (which was then written off!)
- Taxis / hire car / hotels / taxi home from airport
- recovery from the HUMM hotel to nearest dealer
- hotels in Spain & France awaiting repairs, which then took longer than expected so I got flown home & then back to pick up the bike (my choice instead of having bike recovered)

For me renewal is a no brainer :thumb

Slightly off topic

Can you get extended warrentry for any year of bike, I am buying a 2007 GSA

All this talk about small print and sale of goods act may be alright in some circumstances but i cannot imagine that any dealer would be so stupid as to not get a customer's bike back to him as soon as possible and without expense; it is just is not the way to do business whatever you are selling!

When did you last live in the UK?

Most UK companies treat you like they are doing you a favour whenever you spend money with them.

When it happened to me I kicked up a big stink with BuMW Customer Services and they eventually backed down and had it delivered back. I was about 28 miles as the crow flys but 35 miles on the road!:blast:blast

Like the Red Queen, you should try to imagine lots of impossible things. Many of them before breakfast.

The answer is 1993

Well, it was a long time ago - but here retailers of everything are so rude and difficult that 'my' BMW dealer shines out like a beacon - and in fact so does my Ford dealer; but then perhaps it is me and I takk the same language (not lierally I am afraid, but I do my best!)

I have just experiencd the call out service as my bike started to spew oil all over the place and I have to say that I was impressed. They came out within half an hour and resolved the problem.

If only the dealer could do a PDI properly!!!!
