Thinking of getting one shortly seeing as I constantly get lost.... how goos is the beemer unit? It seems the logical choice as it comes with power harness etc that is integrated into the bike....

Mad people have them, sensible people save at least 500 quid and buy a Garmin 2610.

GPS are great bits of kit, use mine alot both in the car and on the bike, however as Stumpi says save yourself a considerable amount of cash and buy the Garmin unit (which is all the BMW Navigator is just rebadged).

They really are the same.
Plus, should you have an issue with the beemer product out of warranty, I do believe there are cases where Garmin wont touch it.

I've been offered a very good price for it as well ...and no fiting charge if I get it done with my service...my mate got one and paid around 300 quid more ...but he's happy with it.

Ive had one for about 10 months, great bit of kit But, unless you get a huge discount, then do yourself a favour and buy the Garmin 2610.
BMW unit with its extra button are real good, but you can sure live without them.
I also was lucky, my mate worked for BM GB and sold it to me real cheap.

Got mine very cheap - huge improvement over the SPIII, but the extra buttons are pretty well superfluous - even with massive heated gloves, the touch screen can be used quite effectively - save the money and get a 2610...

No doubt a good bit of kit but I got a Garmin Quest for just under £400 and it's just as good. Came to well under £500 with the Touratech bracket and does everyting the BMW unit will at less than half the price.

I've got a 2610 & had it fitted to the BMW handlebar mounting & wired to an auxilery power socket mounted on the top left fairing.
That way, when I am not using it there are no wires hanging around.

The things that swung the BMW Nav II for me:
It doesn't need batteries when connected to a PC (as do some alternatives).
The 512Mb capacity.
BMW will continue to provide upgrades and back-up even when it is replaced by the next generation (go to BMW Motorrad website and see that downloads are still coming out for Nav I). BMW seem much more likely to provide support in the years ahead and I'd rather deal with them than Garmin.

Im more than happy having 1gb of memory and 500 quid in my pocket.
You just seem to be dissin Garmin for some reason, and why? Its still a Garmin unit, so, no matter how much you frown on them, you're still using their product, you're just paying BMW more than twice the price for it. Oh ok, two year warranty, Both my units ( ique and 2610 ) are over that age and have never missed a beat with daily use. Free updates, well, I'll get 10 of them for my saved money should I decide I need them.
My advice would be save the money.
And thats all it was, advice.
