Does anyone use the BMW small Softbag on an 1150GS?
I was planning to get one (eBay) but am not convinced of suitability on either the original small rack, or with the Touratech style extension plate which I currently have fitted.
(I haven’t totally ruled out a topbox, but my preference is for a softbag, and the BMW one seems to get positive reviews.)

Which one?

These are 'ok' - they're not waterproof (but come with a black 'shower cap'), have a cardboard liner to hold the shape, and also come with a plastic base that allows it to be clipped to the little silver R-R/K-RS tail-rack. Not huge, but does have a shoulder strap. These also have 2 elasticated straps with metal hooks sewn into the base which can be used to clip the bag to a pillion seat or rack.

This one:

Dates from the early R1200 days (2004?). The main bag IS waterproof, but the side and top pockets are NOT. These come with a few fabric straps which can be looped around fittings on the bike permanently (and then use plastic clips to hold the bag on), or temporarily. Very good bags - will hold quite a bit. These hook onto tail rack with a 'pocket' on the underside, and they're then pulled forward by the straps and clips to keep them on. Very easy to pull off the bike at the destination. Missing a shoulder strap though.

Is the updated version of the above. I've not used one, but I'd imagine they're pretty good.

Which is (to my understanding) a larger version of the above, attached to the bike in the same way.

I've used the first 2 on my Rockster (and a K1200R) but not anything else.

It'll probably be one of these.
I just wasn't sure how secure it would be on the 1150 rack. It would be fine, I'm sure, on the pillion seat, but that's not always convenient........

I use the BMW soft bags on the XR
I know it isnt the same but the principle is

The bags are good the large one is mahooooosive the small is certainly big enough for me for a 6 day jaunt round Scotland. and waterproof to which i can attest

As long as you have a rack of any sort that the "pocket" can slide over it will be fine, the straps ( numerous and varied in length) will hold it on there rock solid even at XR speeds.

Downside of course is that they are not "secure"
