BMW System 6 Helmet?

It's getting towards time for a new helmet and I'm considering the BMW System 6. I had a System 3 many years ago and loved it.

Anyone got any observations on the System 6 - apart from the fact that it's not cheap!

My Schuberth's getting long in the tooth so I'm also interested in the pros and cons of a System 6.

All I've seen so far on the con side is quality issues with various catches and fittings.

Other than that it looks ideal! Apart from the price, that is.

Had mine about 6 months now.
I find it is a bit sloppy and the top of the visor bit sits on my glasses at times.
Mine seems as nosiy as my Arai Condor.
To shut the visor completely i have to push down on the top of the visor, left side til it clicks, then it is quieter.
My visor has a pinlock anti mist insert, works well but I'm sure the visibility isnt as clear s my Arai.
The sun visor is good but i find mine never seems clean.
It has good ventilation and the flip front is handy when moving slowly, i find if i ride with open helmet too fast it effects my eyes so cant comment on that.

I have a sys 6 and will sum up as follows + comfort -everything else noise/drafty / rain gets in / the only helmet with pinlock that I have ever used that does not work.
I have a cheap hjc flip which is much better but less comfort and fogs up less with no pinlock. All visor attachment points seem flimsey and come undone the front vent in the chinbar falls off I have had to replace 2. The top vent works and I like the strap fastening. I would not buy another one. JJH

Don't buy one, I think they are shite.

Mine steams up all the time, even in the current warm weather; and Coopers at Tunbridge Wells have not lived up to their normal standard by just swapping the insert (I have always found them good on warranty stuff) so I wonder if it is a problem that is more widespread, hence the dithering.

SWMBO has got a System 5, it is better built and steams up less. Save youself the dosh and get one of those, £140 should see you with a new one.

evoline is shite. The visor can jam down and I once found myself having to force up the chin bar in traffic to open a steamed up visor. I lost a visor as a result of this. I am not the only one to have this problem. JJH

Just to balance the discussion, the System 6 is the best helmet I've had. The one negative which IS an irritant is that water runs down the centre of the inside of the visor in heavy rain.

Apart from that lightish, good sun visor, well ventilated, very comfortable, the click on the lhs can be stiff on some - it is deliberate though to allow a small airflow without lifting the lip. I haven't had a misting problem.

Like it. At £275 I didn't think it was too much compared with many.

I believe the system 6 is largely based on the Schuberth C3. If so, I've had a C3 for ciica 19 months now, and would not do so again. The visor leaks and auto-closes in speeds of 30-50mph depending on wind direction/strength etc (a new replacement visor did make it a little better on the auto-closure front, but did nothing for the leaking). It has a pinlock internal visor, but is still prone to some steaming up. Personally, unlike the marketing claims, I do not find this helmet (C3) particularly quiet either.

Last Friday the internal sun visor on the C3 decided to detach itself whilst extended and me travelling at speed (with external visor closed sheilding it). This was the last straw and enough to drive me into buying a Shoei Multitec at the weekend.

I will miss the integral sun visor feature of the C3, but not the highly overpriced for lack of quality (IMHO) helmet itself - pick it out of my bin if you want it...

Strod - see if you can source the graduated tint visor that comes with the Multitec in Europe.

I found it a really good compromise after a helmet that had an integral visor. The only time it gave me issues was in the winter months when I might ride to work in the daylight and home in darkness.

Changing the visor over is so easy on the Multitec I just kept the clear one with me.

Done a couple of rides in mine. I find it very quiet, much quieter than my system 5 and it suffers a lot less from buffeting. Yesterday in very heavy rain I did seem to get a dribble of water inside the visor. Fitted the Autucom OK. So far so good

Further to my earlier post, after the first 2 days of transition from the C3 to the Shoei Multitec for commuting, I am suitably impressed and a definite convert.

No discernable difference in weight or noise between the 2 helmets (I do wear custom ear plugs).

However, the Shoei is now proven NOT to leak in heavy rain unlike the C3, the water appears to dissipate from visor in beads, conversely it tends to "cling" on to the C3 visor (although this could be due to new visor affect and some related coating assisting such perhaps - I'm no expert).

The Shoei also seems more svelte like / less bulbous and spaceman like on my noggin than the C3 did, so must be a smaller shell I guess. Whereas I found the C3 unusable on my 999 for this reason, I think the Shoei would work just as well there as on the GSA.

I can live without the integral sun visor, and will probably follow the advice offered by Andy B and obtain a graduated tint visor!

I had the 3,4,5 and now the Sys 6 ( I ride a 1200RT ) for about 5000 miles .
I had no problem with the helmet . Bits to replace are cheaper than on Sys 5 , is quieter and lighter . I like the sun visor and it takes 10 sec to take off ( replacement is £20 ) to clean. There is no audible click when you close the chin piece and no Jet conversion. There was nothing wrong with the 5 , I just purchased one for my son .

Had a system 3, thought it was the worst helmet I've owned for years, had a look at 4,5,6 and the build quality seems to match the 3.

Had Arai ever since, although I did flirt with a multitec..

BMW needs to go and buy an Arai / Shoei and find out what good looks like...

Not sure if you have got your lid yet but I have recently bought a system 6 from a main stealer and I have got to say that ........well it seems to be the dogs dangly bits!

If it helps, I know that my local BMW dealer ship has just started a scheme where-by they are offering up to £50 trade in on your old lid against a new system 6 - that eases the blow (a bit).

Had a problem with my new System 6 in France. The visor wouldn't close properly. Having had a rant at the dealer this morning I find there is a safety recall on them (so when exactly were they going to tell me about it if I hadn't complained?) for just this problem. So a sopping wet head and riding twisty french roads without being able to see properly was just okay was it? Not impressed with the customer service here

I am about to be on my third system 6 in 6 months. Jaw piece failed on the first one, coming back from the Alps at the weekend the inner sun visor has siezed on the second one.

It will be going back to Pidcocoks on Saturday. Dont know whether to accept a replacement or ask for a refund.

Thanks folks - yopu have all just saved me a pile of dosh. I was going to get a 6 with the bluetooth thing, so I can use my phone on the road.....I won't bother now. I have lived with missed calls for the last however many years, I can last the rest of my life.
