does anyone know if a backrest exists for this?

I wouldn't bother, but I have agreed to take my young daughter camping next summer and I thought I'd be a good father and make her as comfy as possible...:)

Thanks for any help.

Backrest

Daj,

Yes - BWM sell a pad that fits to the topbox - about £30 with all the fiddly screws etc. SWMBO says it is great as it makes the pillion feel more secure. You have to drill 4 holes - drill them JUST big enough so they don't let in water (tried and tested in a Scottish summer!)

BTW - BWM sold me bits with the backrest that I didn't use - velcro pad thingies. Not sure what it's for so tell 'em "NO"!

Good luck

Daj,

Is this for a 1150 or 1200?

If for the 1200, then I'm not sure the topbox is securely fastened enough to want to use it as a back rest. To be honest, I've never tried it; but looking at the way the thing mounts (it slides off towards the back of the bike), and bearing in mind the early problems with them junping off, it doesn't seem to be a good idea to lean against it unless you have securely bolted it to the mounting plate.

Curious to hear what others think.

Thought exactly the same thing when I fitted mine. Kit comes with a top and bottom pad and makes it comfier for trips. Does push the pillion forward slightly though. I think the design of the top-box is wrong in that it has a large hooked catch at the front of the rack where it should be at the back to stop it sliding off when leaned against. Only really holds on with the locking catch that doesn't seem so secure. Can't even think how they could have designed it that way or why. Having said that I know a guy who has done 40 thou km with his missus on the back and had no problems with his.

It's an 1150. They seem quite secure and she's only young, so she shouldn't put too much pressure on there...mind you I don't fancy trying to explain things to her mum when she goes missing off the back, somewhere on the Isle of Wight....

Got the BMW one fitted on a 1200gs, take my 9 year old on the back and never had a drama, makes him feel a lot safer and won't go on the back without it.:)

got the 1200 missis seems comfy on back with rest and she has not complained says it is better than the old cbr1000 which was armchair like

she moined about the r1 said the pegs to high, no hand holds, and that it wasnt a real seat

like i say she happy with the gs and i proved i care for her £10 000 for the bike and £40 for the back rest as it dosnt benefit me but i am concerned about fitments as if she was to fall off with the box would i find the box???

as i dont want to buy another
